How do I change my profile photo?

If I remember correctly, this needs a paid membership. But you could try going to your "account details" and clicking your current avatar to see if you can change it.
(Go to your user name at the top of the page and click it. Then select "account details".)

I've heard that when setting up a new account, it is possible to add an avatar to a registered member account. But, in truth, paying members are the only ones who are supposed to have avatars. So if you were able to add an avatar when setting up the account, once set up, I think you would need to purchase a membership to change it.

On the other hand, if you had a paid membership and are now a registered user, try the first paragraph or re-up your membership.

Thought that might be true. Then my second paragraph in the my response above applies. If you really need to change the avatar, you need to go to a paid membership. The minimum membership that has an avatar is the Basic membership. The size limitation on the Basic Membership avatar is fairly limiting as to what you can replace it with. But you would be able to replace it.
