How do I clean my Spyderco that I can't take apart?

I'm just curious as to how you guys clean your knives. I've got an old Delica and as you know it is held together with some kind of rivets or something along those lines.

In the last couple of months I've noticed that the action is getting really sticky and is not very smooth. Do I just get in there with a Q-tip and try to clean it out, or could I soak it in some kind of diluted solution (I'm thinking Simple Green) that would eat away all the grime.

Thanks for any input.

I blast mine with some compressed air mixed and lubing it with some oil. The oil combined with the compressed air should carry most of the dirt away.

Before I had access to compressed air on a regular basis, I used a dental pick(or toothpick), Q-tips, WD40, and water. Not in that order. :) I would try to pick everything out, then rinse it under water, blast it with WD-40. Let it dry, then reoil with something better for knives. Hope this helps. I think soaking in Simple Green would work, just don't dissolve the zytel. :)

Blades

I've not had problems with stubborn dirt or debris getting trapped in mine. So I just soak it in some hot water with some Sunlight in it and open and close it a bit and then dry it.

One suggestion is to put it in the diswasher if you want it super clean. I remember reading an old thread where even Sal recommended this.

When my Wegner got gunky, I simply tossed it (open) into the dishwasher. Take it out as soon as the dry cycle is finished & a couple of drops of lube later, you're good as new.

I've heard that running a knife through a dishwasher can dull-up a blade pretty well if the knife is tossed-around while being "washed"...I take it that you didn't have that problem with your Wegner?

Good point Glockman- The Wegner had it's own little "section" in the silverware basket & didn't come into contact w/ any other metal. I'm a little freaky about getting edges dinged up. I did the same thing w/ my paring knives. The ex would just chuck 'em in there willy-nilly. *shudder* No respect.

i'm having the same slight problem with my Native, with the Zytel handle... would it be able to handle the dry cycle? i'm just worried about any cracking or any moisture that could get trapped

thanx
