So I recently bought this hawkbill knife to up my traditional section but there is severe horizontal blade play, I have already tried wrapping it in leather and tapping it down with a hammer (very carefully) and this straightened out one of the brass liners (minor bit really) but it still has a good 15-20degree swing, lockup in nice and tight so no worries on that part but this is really bugging me, I want to finish putting a convex on this sucker but with the wide swing its not creating an even bevel even when held down.

any help?

If this knife is relatively new, I'd get in touch with Case ASAP. Even if it isn't new, they might still be willing to help. This is something that might be much easier for them to handle. Squeezing/tapping the bolsters sometimes helps for a while, but it won't likely hold forever unless the pivot pin is peened afterwards. If there's any warranty left on the knife, that's something Case should do.

Nice. I like the older Case knives. I still think Case might be able to help, so long as they don't have to replace any major parts (blade/handle/backspring). If it just needs tightening up, I'd think they could do that easily. Some of the literature I get from them (Case Collectors Club) will occasionally feature articles & pics of 'old' knives that they've refurbished for Case fans. I'd bet they'd like to help with this one, if they can.

Here's a link to Case's Support page. Phone & other contact info can be found there. --->: http://www.wrcase.com/support/contact_us/

Keep us posted.

Just finished an email to their repair group, just waiting on the response, pretty excited since i have plenty of other projects to work on

Well Got the Email, and they want me to send it in for an evaluation, at most nothing or ill have to shell out another ~$20 for workmanship and S&H, possibly more for parts, so not too bad. I plan on sending it out today and theyll email me back with their results.

Even at $20, I think that'd be a good investment to get that knife back in shape. Sounds encouraging. Let us know how it goes, and post pics too, if you feel like it! :)
