Hey guys I was wondering how I would get rid of the scratches left by a SOS type pad when I washed them. I thought it was non scratch. Im pretty bummed out. I also noticed a stain on the tip of my paring knife :-(

Thanks for the help
Ryan

the scratches are from edge to spine and are hard to "fix" withought a belt grinder

best bet is to hand sand from handle to tip of the blade then as you wash any new scratches will be along the same direction

hand sanding will take some time and it all depends on the look you want

After sanding you may refine the finish somewhat with cork. Your waterstones offer an excellent polish substance. Regards from Holland

Welcome Shark.

Some of the coolest threads on this forum (not so much here in Kitchen) are guys showing off their patinas, their well used knives, sometime they are just beaters...good knives used hard. There are however, no threads showing abused knives...just well used.

You sound like a man who's very proud of your knives and you're in the right place for that sentiment brother. But for all but collectables, art-knives, or what are often called "safe queens", some wear showing is kind of a point of some pride around here.

So my advice is leave your blades alone...you'll be just as proud.

or could make a good blade too sticky to cut taters or other tubers
as the starches stick to mirror blades

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I'll end up just letting them be. They are meant to be used.

Thanks again. :-)

Now now, you can remove those small scuffs! Barkeeper's Friend and a cork. It may take time, but I once took an hour and polished every knife at the Sushi Bar that way. Even removes patina and haze. You're basically abrading the steel VERY slowly.
