how do i get a parallel edge?

I'm very green to knifemaking and every time I get my knife down to where I need to make the cutting edge, it never comes out well. I have a 8" wet grinder and of course files. Thanks for any help.

The best way to do it, since you start with a stock, is to scribe a center line and follow it carefully.
Lay the stock and a scribe/drill bit both flat and run the bit along the edge of the stock; then flip the stock and repeat....you will get one (if centered) or two lines running along at the perfect center, where the edge will be. Follow that mark and you'll be centered.
