how do I get max height on my hollowgrinds

I am wondering how I determen the max height for the grind on different stock. I use a 10" wheel.

i have found that one inch is just about right for a 10 inch wheel using .187 stock. you can go wider but not much.

If you need a grind that is wider than the 1", you might try a flat grind or slightly convex. If you are grinding a blade that is 2" wide and a 1/4" thick, the flat grind will look good, at least to me it would. I use a 10" wheel and I like it a lot better than the 8". Just my thoughts. I "cheat" with my hollow grinds. By rocking the blade up and down on the wheel I can vary my grind heights to do a full grind on almost any size blade. I learned this when all I had was a 6" contact wheel and I was trying to make a Loveless style hunter!
I takes a bit of practice but it works.
