How do I get metal blue?

I've seen a lot of really nice custom work done, with damascus bolsters and blades, where the metal is a bright blue. I was wondering how that's done. I think I read somewhere you can do that with a heat gun from a hardware store pretty easily, but I'm not 100% sure that's right. Anyone got some better info on the process? I'm wanting to blue a titanium handle, but I want to have enough control over the finished color so that I don't ruin the piece...

Thanks in advance

First you got to be able to sing the Blues. The worse you sing the bluer the material will get. I'm never messed with ti so I can't help you there. Most steels if you heat them up to around 500 degrees will give you a blue but then again it depends on the steel. You just need to experiment and find out what works for you.

With TI the color is done by passing an electric current through the metal while submerged in an electrolyte (TSP).Do a search on "Anodizing Titanium".The color is determined by the voltage and current.
