How Do I Get My Blade to Look Like This?

Hey all,

I just became the proud owner of my first KaBar! It's all thanks to fellow KaBar enthusiast Bikerector!! I love this knife. I've never had a knife this large and I can't wait to put it to some use.

As I was going thru the KaBar picture thread I saw LOTS of KaBar's that I liked. Heck, I want 'em all I guess.
Anyway, someone posted a pic of a new KaBar that's a tribute to the WWII Pacific Theater battles. It's a beauty to my eyes. One thing that caught my eye immediately was how the blade was polished or sharpened or whatever they did to it to get it to look the way it does. That's what I am curious about. I want to know how I can get my blade to look like the one in this picture.
Here's the knife I am talking about:

I really like the look of this blade. I cleaned mine up a bit and it looks somewhat like the darker part of the blade, but mine is the whole blade.

Can you tell me what I need to do to get my blade to look like this one?

Also, I really like how the point is really sharpened. The lines of the blade also look really sharp and crisp, I guess that's a good way to put it.

Any ideas or suggestions? Do you have your KaBar looking like this blade does or is yours just plain black or stripped off to bare metal?

Thanks for your time and help.

You won't ever be able to get it to look exactly like that as acquiring matching handle material would be near impossible.

To get your knife to look "similar" to it, you would need to ::
- remove the pommel,
- pull the existing stacked leather disks and guard off
- strip the existing factory coating off the blade
- make or buy a brass guard to fit over the tang
- get your choice of material cut to fit over the tang in the pattern you want (oversized, to allow grinding down to desired handle dimensions and shape)
- replace the pommel and pin
- grind the pommel down to a similar shape if desired.

It looks like the blade was dipped in Ferric Chloride and stone washed.
It is hard to tell if it is just lighting or if the blade is lighter on the bevels.
If you are after the two tone look, it is going to take some hand finishing after the acid stone wash.

ways to get the 2-tone look.
use tape to mask off the parts you want to leave bright and cold blue or acid soak the rest.
or - cold blue/acid soak the whole blade, then polish the bevels with wet/dry paper wrapped around a rubber eraser.
or - if your knife already has a dark finish ("paint" or parkerizing), tape off the parts you want to keep dark and use some citrustrip gel or a sanding block to remove the finish from the bevels.

I should've made myself clear....I was just wanting my BLADE to look like that one in the pic.
My fault.

Thank you all for your help though.
Have a good week,
Larry
