How do I get this flaky crap off my Gerber multi tool?

This is an old multitool I got for Christmas years ago, which I found in a box of random things the other day. I'd like to get it back into working shape, but it has this blue baked-on paint which is now flaking off. Any heavy use results in little blue paint chips.

Any suggestions on how to remove it? Thanks in advance.

with time and constant handling :-)
i know, you probably can't stand the less than perfect condition it's in now.
many people can't...
however, it's not really a flawed tool
but a cosmetic issue, which has it's advantages.
try thinking of what you have now
as signs of adding personalized character to your tool.
through these signs of wear,
you have actually created the badges of merit
which can only be earned through the works of your labor.
the advantages of these random personalized imprints,
is that you will recognize it instantly.
and nobody can take that away from you.
and because you alone will know the true working condition of your tool,
you will not raise an eye when it's put in use.
deception of age created by it's worn condition.
really has a positive side to things.
one only needs to know how to accept imperfections
(no matter how bad they look on the outside),
as the key to graceful personal aging.
it's what's on the inside that counts.

Ohh man that is a beauty.

I lost one of those babies over 10 years ago.

I personally would keep that as is but have you tried acetone paint removers?

Maybe wirebrush.

Wire brush - I had an old utility knife that the paint was coming off of, so I used a wire brush. Worked perfectly.
