Not to mention cleaning it - I've read the hot water method, thats okay for the steel?
I just bought a BM griptilian (Thanks to everyones help here) but I don't want to ruin it..

The guy at the store said I Could just use some good old cooking oil to making it smoother to open - especially since I mentioned I wouldn't mind cutting fruit or other edible things with the knife.

So are these two methods the way to go?
Use Hot water and Soap, Hot water to rinse, then dry?

And then Cooking oil whenever it needs lube, and wipe off excess?
Thanks,
Sorry if this is anywhere else, Search isn't working for some reason half of the time I try and use it.
Thanks,
SteelGuy

i've always used 3 in One to oil my knife. i use my knife to cut food and such and have never had any problems.

Mineral oil yes------cooking oil NO!

Cooking oil will turn rancid in time, thicken and become an antilubricant.

I use Breakfree CLP. Mineral oil for a food prep knife is ok. Whatever you use, use very little. A quality folder needs only a very small amount. I dip the end of a paper clip in the oil and put a very small drop in the pivot area. Too much will make a mess and collect lint and dirt.

Some of those suggestions look great, ie Militech and the 3 in one, the breakfree....but I guess my main question is that do these chemicals have to be non toxic to qualify for using it with edible food?

I mean my knife isn't a cooking knife per sey, but I wouldn't mind using it around food without worry once in a while.

I take it my best/safest bet then would be mineral oil?

That militec stuff looks interesting, lots of chemcials it seems like though...haven't looked into the others enough yet - although glad you have not got sick Scorch :) :D
