How do I make a blade????

I have made a solid oak handle for a custom knife I would like to try and create. My dad has the funds under control and I need to know a couple things.

1)What steel is best for newbies(beginers)
2)How do I actually forge and temper the blade.
3)How would I attach the blade to the handle if the handle only has a hole going through th center of the handle hotdog style?? Thanx for the help

I can't tell you what an amazing tutorial this is on how to make knives from almost nothing. The step by step notes and pictures are a BETTER guide than I have seen in most books.
