How do I make my new mini-AFCK open slicker?

This knife seems a little stiff, can I loosen the main "screw" a tad so I don't have to exert a lot of force to open it? Can I used hex wrenches from the hardware store? I don't feel like mailing it away if all it needs is a little loosening. (I tried a little oil and that hasn't helped.)

Thanks!

Yes, you can loosen it on your own with hardware store tools. I think you'll be voiding your warranty though. Never stopped me...

It's not a hex, but a Torx screw. Probably a T-10. I wouldn't panic yet if the knife is "New". Just pick a long movie or a ballgame and give it a few hundred open/closed operations. It will loosen up some. If you really want to loosen the pivot right now, you should get a Torx driver.

Good luck, and welcome to the Forums.

Use a T8 torx wrench. I bought mine at Sears for $1.99. If you loosen it not even a 1/4 turn, it opens on the slightest flip of the wrist. Don't worry, adjusting the main pivot, does not void the warranty. :)

While my AFCK has Torx fasteners, my Mini-AFCK needs a regular 3/32" hex wrench for loosening the pivot screw (and phillips screws for removing the clip as opposed to Torx on the full-sized AFCK).

Loosen the pivot screw until you get the level of friction you want. Loosening too far with give you side-to-side blade play.

Take it easy,

Picked up a Torx wrench, cranked it open a tad, and now it's as slick as I wanna be. Thanks, crew!
