Hi guys. I'm wondering how to oil the pivot on my folding knife with an oil pen. Do I just try to get it in between the pin and the scale and along the blade where the handle meets the blade then open and close it a bunch of times? Or do I have to take the folder apart to do this?
I'm new to knife collector ting so I've never done this.
Please help!

Thanks,

P. S. Please see my other post that's getting no replies "how to - knife sharpening avoiding a rounded edge" or something. As I keep getting a rounded edge when Sharpening with a stone but the stone isn't totally flat.

It really depends on how often the knife was used. You could start with your first option and see if you like the results. I would take it all apart, noting carefully where every part went exactly where and keeping in mind the blade side and scale side of the bushing/s. Clean everything up with a light solvent like WD40. Unless the knife is brand new I would consider polishing the bronze bushings ever so lightly, they are probably at least tarnished. You do not want to remove too much material. You only want to polish out the wear marks. If the wear marks are gouges then measure them with a digital caliper, thickness, O.D. and I.D. Try to find replacements, there are a few places that sell bushings. High end knives I would leave to the Manufacturer. I read here your request to go to another thread and help you with that also. I can't really be of much help to you there, but I can tell you that it takes quite a bit of repetition to get the muscle memory down well enough to not round out edges. I'm almost there but I have a ways to go still. It's not easy for most people. Picture training for the Olympics, bronze, silver and gold doesn't happen overnight.
Best of luck in your training, as I am also. Keep at it, soon your wrists will begin to lock into place where you set them. Plus there's plenty of very good reading on the subject here in the forums.

I don't know if my reply dossapeared or If it's there because I'm new.i inked Rey to thread when I was done typing and it took me here. I just said thank you very much for your time and I will use your advice to improve my skills.

Thanks again,

If it's a new blade or one that's been in your possession for a short while and you know it's not dirty or grimy and it works well enough, I would just slip the oil between either side of the blade near the pivot. If it's dry, capillary action should make the oil go into the pivot as you work it open and close. You shouldn't use too much as the oil itself sort of keeps dirt and grease.
