I'm embarrassed. Fussing with some odds and ends in my collection. The brand is Pro Tech. I can't figure out how to open it regardless of the position of the sliding lock.

My best guess would be the silver fire button but im guessing you already tried that. if its open back construction look inside and see if maybe something is obstructing the mechanism. How long has it been in the closed position? is it corroded shut?

The knife is basically new. Clean as a whistle. When I bought it, I was told it had some sort of patent pending opening mechanism that supposedly made it legal in areas where auto are not. I seem to remember it was a matter of pressing down on the blade and releasing it. I think the button lock simply clears it to close. Obviously, the details escape me.

I just watched a youtube video, try pressing the blade towards the scale that does not have the button.

My memory is not so foggy. I had the right idea. I got it open once. Truthfully, I think it is a bit of kluge. This one may be defective. Thanks to Squashfan for the link. It is called Ciabatta which, of course, is a style of Italian bread. I guess if Kershaw can call things leeks and other vegetables, why not bread? Thanks gents.

No problem. I just Binged "Protech Blackie Collins" which lead to the name and the video. Neat looking knife with a cool opening mechanism.
