How do I polish casting resin?

I drilled a through hole in a new knife handle and covered one side of the hole with tape. Then poured it half full of casting resin and let it set up. Then put in a dry fly and covered it with resin and let that set up. Sandded through 2000 grit and then rubbed it out with automotive polishing compound.

It is still hazy... anyone have any experience with casting resin?

Thanks,
Dave

Lets see Had that happen when trying to fill knots in a burl.
dish the hole out a bit and put a drop of super glue over it .you can at least buff out super glue and get a shine.

Try a quick pass over the affected area, with a propane torch. Be very careful. You might want to try it on a scrap piece first. We used to polish plastic pieces this way in art class.

I'm gonna put my vote for the super glue. s ounds like you got inclusions/bubbles/whatever the heck proper word is in the resin. super glue should polish up. of course, then you're still taking chance of seeing the inclusions through the super glue. so not sure.

I would just try a bunch of things and if they make it worse, drill it out and start over. :)

I have covered emblems with casting resin a few times, it is a fairly soft material, so you have to buff it VERY lightly, I use no scratch pink-I think Ken McFall carries it, just a light touch and it looks like glass. Go up to a dull 600 grit or 800 grit and then a light touch with the buff wheel.............I would also clean the buff wheel with a rake well before applying the pink rouge
