Hey all, my Mora #1 classic got some rust on i and unfortunately right between the guard and the blade down in there so i cant use anything to scrub it away. My question is do you guys know of any product or method to remove rust without having to scrub it??

I'm not aware of anything that would eat rust away, but some WD40 wouldn't hurt.

A $10 bill works great.

To buy another one ;)

Hmm.... never thought of that..:jerk it: lol thatll be the best idea anyway since i messed up on trying to sharpen it but strangely the grind wasnt even correct.... had the scandi grind look but it was convex on the second bevel to the edge. maybe a messed up blade or the seller messed it up? not sure but ill be getting another soon i suppose.. use this one for tests n such

If it is still surface you could probably hit it with some navel jelly. It has worked on my knives.

If you're in California, be careful with Naval Jelly; it can cause cancer. Apparently you're OK if you're outside of CA though.

Either convert the rust with a rust converter (you will end up with a patina) or polish it off with 600+ wet&dry sandpaper.

Don't sweat about the convexed edge - the knife works better with one anyway

I heard that putting some onion juice on it and let for a while will work. Just make sure to wash the blade afterwards and to dry it well.

Well to remove the rust, I would also say that WD40 is right for this. I removed rust from my Glock 78 on the blade with a self-made. I took some olive-oil and some salt (lot of salt), mix it up and then you have something to remove the rust.

WD40 & a toothbrush -- or just use it to cut up a freshly grilled, still steaming hot steak, making sure the entire blade is soaked in hot meat juices to get a good patina started. :)

Not too sure about cutting a steak with a rusted knife

But im surprised at how many people actually threw in some advice for this so thanks everyone for your advice, I just think ill buy one from Ragnar this time and NOT off of ebay... lol and i need it to be a true scandi grind because... well... lets just say a blind man with no thumbs would do a better sharpening job on most knives than i would :p

There are instructions on ragnar's website about how to repair a damaged (read no longer scandi) ground blade. I tried them, and it worked just fine.

I'm only color blind and I do have my thumbs, so your results may differ.

I don't think adding a patina to the carbon steel after it rusts is really going to help with the rust that is already on the blade.

Clean Power is a chemical liquid that you can coat onto the blade and just wipe off. It should work, it's worked on all my carbon steel in the past.

what works for me is to mix some baking soda and water into a paste, scrub the rusty area with some of the paste and rinse off, then dry and oil.
