Hello, i recently tried to sharpen my cold steel gurkha kukri, with a stone, it didnt work out as planned, the knife got sharp but there are scratches now about, 2 centimeters from the edge, i fear that rusting would be easier to occur because of the scratches, plus it just doesnt look good, so does anyone know of anything i could use?

How deep?
Generally you keep scratching until you get an even coat of scratches, then you switch to smaller scratch producing immplement, and keep scratch until you get an even coat of scratches, then you switch to smaller ... until you're satisfied with the looks
Eventually you reach the limit, and then you switch to polishing ( buffing with compound ).

If you are familiar with convexing edges, use a convex pad with a slightly steeper angle than you'd normally use. This will leave a nice vertical scratch pattern behind the edge that looks better than random scratches. If you reduce the grit, you can get a nice satin finish.

I made these last year and finished the entire blade with a convex pad starting at 220 grit and working up to 600 near the edge:

Do you drag the knife against the soft pad? do you lay it flat and roll up to the edge? how do you do the tip? or do you take a soft pad of some sort and take it to the blade in a vise? thanks, I would love to know the best method of doing this.
