How do I restore my faded G10?

Just got back from a camping trip and there was lots of rain and lots of cutting to do with my BM Nimravus. It seems that the G10 has faded to a smokey, greyish colour now and no matter how much I clean it, it won't come back to it's original black colour. Why is it that it fades so much and can I restore it?

I had my AFCK on the trip and the G10 did not fade at all. Are there different grades of G10 or anything like that?

This may sound rather strange, but it works.

The more you try to clean it, the greyier it's going to get.

To make it nice and black again, spray it down with WD-40, wipe off the excess, and let it dry overnight. The G10 will actually absorb the WD-40 and won't end up being at all slipery.

Non related: BOK, you happen to be Jason at PC and Oakridge?
I have no idea about G10. The only knife that I have G10 on is something that I'll be giving away as a b-day gift.

Calyth - There's a Jason who works at Lan and another one in Lou...neither work at Oak or PC.

Gollnick - thanks for the advice...I will most definitely give that a try...can't wait to see the results...

Damn.... you're driving me nuts.. I'm trying to identify you ;)
Jason at Lougheed told me that there's a Jason or another person that may work at where you work.

You'll have to come and buy from me one day :D

No complaining about prices though!;)

I would suggest one of the better plastic restorers available at auto body suppliers that actually add plasticisers and UV inhibitors and other goodies back to your synthetics. Even "STP Son of a Gun" or "Armourall" would do the trick.

I got a dye that is made for the thermoplastics like G10, etc. Comes in different colors. Works very well, and is NOT a coating. The plastic absorbs the dye.
I got it at auto paint supply house, and is not very expensive, Comes in small cans of what size you may need.
That is if you are not happy with WD40, etc.

Hope this helps.

Larry

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sometimes I think I'm asking stupid questions but you guys have helped me out so much.

I'm so thankful for this place.
