How do I sharpen my knives?

I'm not even kidding. Pretend like you're talking to a child. I need a strop, right (which one, where from)? What else? I'm trying not to spend a lot of money. Thanks all!
 
What's your budget? I would say that the lower your budget, the more complicated your answer's going to be. If you don't mind throwing down a few hundred dollars right away, there's not much of a learning curve to high end guided systems like Wicked Edge.
 
I use the Spyderco Sharpmaker and a Stropman HD Compact.
I'd watch the DVD that comes with the Sharpmaker and Youtube for correct technique for both.
