Ok so my knife goes dull really fast after i sharpen it. i just sharpen on a flat diamond stone, thats all i do. I know nothings wrong with the heat treat or anything because it took forever to dull the factory edge. is there something im suppose to do after i sharpen or something? is there some kind of trick to it? thanks guys.

Need to remove the wire edge caused by the stone. After you sharpen your knife the wire will fold over and feel dull very fast. Try a good strop, or run the blade down a piece of wood.

That depends on what kind of edge you want. Having one grit won't give you a refined edge, but it might give you a working edge if you work the edge long enough. What grit is the stone you are using (and what brand/model if you know)? If the edge gets very sharp but dulls immediately after a little cutting, you probably have a wire edge, basically the burr is what is cutting, but that gets knocked off quickly. You have to get rid of the burr and keep working your edge. five strokes with light pressure on each side, try maybe checking the edge after 50 strokes each side (5 on one, then 5 on the other, then repeat until 50 on each side). And make sure you have a good angle, about 20 degrees each side is a good utility angle.

Good luck :D
