I have a Solingen hunting knife that is in need of a new sheath. The blade is 6 inches and overall length is 10 inches. When I buy a sheath, in a store or on line, do I only worry about the blade length or also width? What do I look for for a proper fit? If I see a sheath for a 6 inch blade does that mean that it will fit ANY 6 inch blade or do I also need to search for the width size? Is ordering on line a fair idea or am I just taking chances like that?

If you are interested in a near perfect fit, then a custom made sheath might be the best way to go. Also the price of your knife and/or your sentimental attachment to the knife are points to consider. It is quite possible to have a sheath costing nearly as much or even more than the knife. The ready made sheaths might or might not be a near perfect or at least adequate fit. Blade length would be your first priority in a ready made piece. Other than custom made and fitted, it's just kind of a crap shoot.
