How do knives sell so fast?

It is absolutely crazy how fast many knives sell when listed on this forum. Do people just sit there refreshing the page all day? Many sell in less than a few minutes. Hot market I guess!

Like 91bravo said, a quality picture means a whole lot. Plus, there is a huge market out there for knives. I don’t have a Knifemakers upgrade to sell on this forum. However, since I started selling the knives I make on Facebook, I’m usually always backed up on orders.

You want to see knives sell fast go over to where they sell those old time pocket knives. It's insane I was looking for a Northwoods Freemont Jack in Stag... Yeah you better be Quick. Holy Smokes those boys don't play around on that forum. So yes BF is no joke it's a great forum, have fun on your hunt.

The front page claims over seven hundred members online right now. Add to that those who monitor the forums through their email client, and it's a wonder anything lasts at all.

Then there's the fact that many knives get offered at a discount to the retail price.

Patience pays off. The knife you want will come up when you're watching.

(Unless you want to buy a particular brand of small batch slip joint. In which case you must stay hooked to the net 24-7 and mustn't blink at paying 2 1/2 - 3x retail!)

Yup, it’s all in the timing. I’ve lucked out and jumped on knives within minutes of them being posted but missed out on others by a matter of seconds.

Among the reasons why some knives on BF go "so fast" are:

1) The condition for most knives sold on BF is new or "like new" in box, which are as good as anything you could buy anywhere else.

2) Most knives are priced at a discount from MSRP (or MAP) AND the price (per forum guidelines includes shipping and any transaction fees) w/o any sales tax added, which is a substantial incentive to buy a knife here as opposed to sites.

and . . .

3) There are mostly "serious collectors" here on BF who take good care of their knives and are NOT trying to BS or scam anyone; usually just letting knives go that they lost interest in or were never interested in in the 1st place.

Let the seller's BF trading rating be your guide as far as buying is concerned.

-----------------------------------

FWIW, Knives in high demand offered for a low price (relative to the "market") will be GONE before you know it but others will languish for weeks (if not months) depending on the price and level of interest.

I've seen "like new" but "used" knives offered for no better than MSRP (or MAP) and it was NOT surpising that they did NOT sell. Apparently, some sellers don't think that BF buyers are not smart enough to check current MSRP/MAP pricing to see if the price offered for the knife is "fair" or not. LOL!!!

Knife buyers are knowledgable but are also 'fickle" (BF buyers are no different) and some knives, like the Slysz Bowie are extremely overvalued but still sell in an instant, while other knives as good or better than a SB can sit unloved w/o a bid. It is what it is.

I've sold most of the knives I've offered for sale on BF but a few never sold, even though offered at competitive discounts. Then again, I've had people look at old ads to see if a particular knife was still available and then sold if it was.

Again, it is what it is and "what it is" just "depends." No one has a crystal ball to foretell what will sell and what will not.

I dunno ... My crystal ball predicts anything GEC is gonna sell right quick, even if ... ok ... "when" ... the price is over the original retail.

Some of the GEC releases literally sell out with-in 60 seconds when released.
To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if some sell out inside 30 seconds or less ...

That's what happens when they only make 25 or less to 150 in any one particular run, and thousands of people want one.
Who knows when (or if) there will be a second run, and what will be different in any subsequent run?
(GEC told me any subsequent run has to have a noticable from a distance difference from any previous runs.)

I have used the "watch" feature to notify me of every new post created in the knifemaker's fixed blade for sale area.

Beyond that, it just depends on how often I have the opportunity to check the notifications.

It's not just knives that seel out instantly - - it's everything.

The crazy thing about it all is how few people seem to be working & earning money to buy stuff...

Something's not right here. I'm beginning to think there's no pandemic - I think the aliens are abducting people & the COVID is a cover for the abductions....

@ least that's what Georgio wrote on my Facebok page... ;).

Seriously though - guns, ammo, real eastate, tools - everything is selling out as fast as it can be produced. I've been looking for a benchtop drill press for - literally - 6 months.
We had a warranty repair needed on an LG refrigerator. They couldn't get the parts for the repair, so, they just refunded our purchase price - minus the extended warranty charge.
We were at Denny's yesterday morning & there was one waitress and one guy working the kitchen. That was it. Normally there used to be 5 or 6 people working the morning shift there.

I could go on and on - but - I hear the aliens scratching at the door trying to get in........

Sales at the Exchange does seem to be faster recently. I suspect it has something to do with people having more time to browse online and also people having more spare cash to spend.

My head spins seeing how fast the Demko AD20s sell out; i was lucky enough to grab the exact one i wanted during the second run 6 months ago or so; every dealer who gets a batch sells them out in hours.Ive never seen any other knife sell out that fast .And they are fetching almost double if being resold.

Same reason the securities and crypto markets are so bullish. People are allowed to not pay their rent and not pay their mortgages and are getting free money and staying home looking at their computers.
