Some of them have sponsored "Name my new knife" contests right here at BladeForums. The person who posted the eventual winning name gets one of the new knives free! I think you should do that too!

Nice try, Kelly. I've never seen anyone try to aquire a knife that way. Good Luck.

Would be real nice, though.

Do you hear that?
That is the sound of inevitability.

Actually Barry, several makers have indeed had name-my-knife contests here. Pat Crawford and Alan Elishewitz come to mind. They sponsored a contest in which they picked Janus as the name for their collaberation after a couple of forumites suggested the name. IIRC, Spark and another forumite each won a new Janus for picking the name.

However, my post was in jest as I know how expensive Tim's knives are. Worth a shot though...

Tim I think I was the first to have the forumites name a knife. The Apogee was named here about a year and a half ago.
Tim Flanagan of NEK won the prototype for the name.

The other way is to think of all wlaks in the woods and trips (for me ) to discovery zone ) with my boy hahahaha. Its easy to wonder off upstairs when your at discovery zone on a sat morning...

Tim,
Comming up with good names for my knives is the hardest thing for me! Only one knife in my line has a clever name that sort of describes the knife.....My LiteWave!!
Other that that it's Small Hunter, Medium Hunter, Big Hunter, Hawkbill, etc

St.James posted this a while back and although there were many good names to be found, most of my knives still remain nameless!! It's the Encyclopedia Mythica!! http://www.pantheon.org/mythica/
I keep thinking, better to have no name than some bizarre name that no one can relate too

Tim, another good way to find names is a Thesaurus, enter a word that roughly describes your creation and look for alternatives. Another way is to go do a search here for the last name the knife contest and just help yourself. Who would know?

Well, here's a tip

Read lots of books, preferably Sci-Fi or Fantasy

That's what I do when I look for a name for a knife design...

Just my 2 cents
