How do the Fusion Handles Feel?

I just ordered a FBM and was looking for some feedback as to how the handles feel during extended hard chopping. I understand no one has a FBM yet, but what about chopping with the FSH?

-Best wishes-

Disclaimer, I have dainty computer geek hands. I tried using my heavy heart to chop down a tree(what was left of it) about a foot in diameter. About half way through, a big blister following the drumstick near the thumb made me say no mas :o . Next round I'm wearing gloves but I wanted to try it bare handed first. I have to learn things the hard way :D .

That sucks. I see many custom knives that have handles that look like they wouldn't cause blisters but I don't like the construction of the blade/tang area. I like clean micarta slabs mounted to a full tang. I am also looking at the ferhman extreme judgement.

I've chopped down a few trees (most were around a foot in diameter) with my HOGFSH (standard) and I really like the fusion handle. I did it barehanded, but next time I'm bringing gloves. I didn't get any blisters, but I felt kind of sore in a few spots. The beauty of the fusion handles for chopping is that they offer two different ways of holding the knife; once you start to get some sore spots, just change your grip

Btw. I don't have any other giant knives to compare the HOGFSH to, but feel free to give me a SHSH or (preferably) a SHBM and I'll tell you what I think :)

Good taste! The very first 'extreme judgement' was a Busse 1 off called the Behemoth, both designed by the same person.

You can see it on Bad Mojo in the custom section.

huh? who designed them?

Uncle Screwtape was the screen name.

I'd have to get to my address book in my old computer for the real name, but he is credited on the Feherman site.

Cliff Stamp had some problems with the steel, but I felt no need to send him mine even though it is a user and INFI.

Rob, I remember that now that you mention it. Uncle Screwtape was going to get one made by Busse and had the posterboard cutout he possted on one of his posts here. I've been a lurker for a while. ;)

He did it from plastic and it is pictured along with the Behemoth in bad mojo.

A lot of thought went into the design.

Found it. Thanks for the link. My only two possible problems with this knife would be sharpening it on a DMT benchstone. And second, The handle groove for the forefinger rubbing my finger raw. Otherwise, this one looks like one heck of a chopper. The ferhman final judjement isn't wide enough for me I like the 2+" wide blades. And I'm sure the fit and finish on the Ferhman is probably higher quality, than that of the Busse. Hopefully I get a nice one with a handle that "likes" my hand.

I would seriously look into snagging a Battle Rat. I would ALWAYS take Rec-C over micarta for my users. The difference is monumental in my experience.

Ya, my hands like the Res-C also.

Still have my BR, but wish I had held on to my Basic-9.

J85909266, I agree. The respirine handles are more comfortable than the micarta however, I like the durability of the micarta. Maybe I'll snag one of each...?;)

I am one of the few that dont like fusion handles. Sadly that is why I have not ordered my dream blade, the Battle Mistress, because I dont like the handles. I had the FSH and got rid of it. It has the upperward palm swell that rubbed massive blisters on my hand. Also, I got blister on my pinky from choking to far back and the pommel would rub my hand. However, I am one of the few that dont like the fusion handles. I believe the general concesus is that if you have big hands you will like the fusion design. I also heard that magnum scales will help prevent blister, don't know if its true or not.

I love the Fusion handles. On the other hand, I really don't care for a blade larger than a SH. I'm still waiting on an INFI hatchet/tomahawk. Although I do love Res-C, and it sticks better in wet work, but chopping with it while wet causes more blistering.

I personally have not used a better design than the Fusion for overall use in chopping, cutting and sticking. I worked the christmas tree farms up here in Washington for several years when I was younger. We would have given the raingear off our backs for a Woodman's Pal that had the fusion design. Another  for the Fusion in it's versatility in hand positioning. I have deformative levels of arthritis and it has hit my hands the worst. While using my HHFSH, the handle design has been a godsend in comfort and wear. I've always worked very hard with my hands, (and they are not large) so blistering doesn't bother me. Blistering can happen while using a shovel, axe, any tool or even driving a vehicle. I see a blister as my body saying I haven't been out doing enough.;) :D

I had that happen too. So it was actually two blisters from the tree chopping session. But my second round with the heavy heart was much better, now that I have a few patches of rough skin :p .

Maybe this should be in another thread. But, I'm starting to question my initial research on the magnum vs. standard handles. Which led me to believe the magnums were for people with large hands and the standard for average hands.

Also, I got blister on my pinky from choking to far back and the pommel would rub my hand.
