I've read a hundred threads on sharpening khuks (and I still don't have the hand of it). People advocate belt sanders, files for rough work, sandpaper, etc.

I was wondering how the kamis sharpen the khuks. Don't imagine that they have belt sanders. Sometimes I get a paper cutting sharp one (like my new Foxy Folly) and some are more like a curved hammer (my chiruwa AK).

Quick answer: On the shop grinder.;)

Uncle Bill has said the averge Nepali would use a stone in the field and if the khukuri required more work than that they would carry it back to the house and use their file.
There's a lot of difference in being hair popping or shaving sharp and sharp enough for general chopping.
