How do these folders rank as an EDC?

I'm trying to decide on an EDC. I'm looking at the BM Skirmish 630, BM 710 D2, Emerson Commander, & Emerson CQC-12. What are the strengths and weaknesses of these folders?

630 is too big for my needs, but fits my big paws very well. 710, I only have a 154CM model, but wish I would have gone for the D2. It is my big weekday EDC (my small carry is usually a slippie or traditional lockback). I've never been a big fan of the Emerson designs, but I had a Benchmade CQC7 once, great knife, and I've heard only good things about them. If you really need a super beater and have big paws, go for the 630. If not, then go for the 710. The 710 is a better knife IMHO for my needs anyway. If you are looking at incorporating SD into your knife carry and know what you're doing, I would look at the 630, closed it is an impact tool.

Basically, what you need to tell us what you are going to use it for.

I'm looking to use it for daily use (opening boxes, cutting rope, etc.) Also want it to be very reliable for SD and maybe even camping use. Oh, and the paws are not so big.

You have the exact same question on the Blade Discussion
forum. Please post on one forum only. Otherwise the question becomes SPAM, clogging the system.

I would just say buy what you think looks the nicest, all of those knives are good, and will perform very well under normal every day use...So its just a mater of prefference...The only thing I would suggest is buyign a knife that has a lock you are comfortable using...

710 then. Never used mine for SD, never had any plans for it, but I guess it would work well for that. If you're looking for a worker that can moonlight as a SD tool, check out the Spyderco Military.

The ballance of overall qualities is the strength of the 710. The weaknesses of the others are the unballanced overall qualities. One falls more to the "design oriented" knife, others have a heavyweight on sd.

Have you looked into the Spyderco Captain? I tried one out for a week and fell in love with it. With it's opposite cutting angles, it'll handle any day to day task.

Since there's a duplicate thread in General, where it's more appropriate anyway, I'll lock this and suggest further discussion happen there
