How do they compare?

Just wondering if anyone can shed light on how the Northwoods Presidential and Northwoods Hawthorne compare? I have read the specs and have seen the pics, but for general use and pocket carry, can anyone chime in? Thanks in advance.

I don't have a Northwoods Presidential but do have a Tidioute Cuban Pen which is a similar knife. I do have a Hawthorn (with more landing today hopefully) but haven't carried it yet. It is similar to GEC #48 knives which I do carry all the time. They both are slim knives and the Hawthorn will weigh less but both are easy to carry. If you're using the leather slips they come with then I don't think you'll notice too much difference while carrying them size wise.

They both have similar length main blades but the Presidential also has a secondary blade. I like using my pocket knives for simple food prep but do not like using that same blade for dirtier stuff like opening packages etc. For me, a 2nd blade is necessary. The Presidential has one by default while for the Hawthorn, I'd have to carry a second knife (sometimes preferable if working with really dirty stuff, don't want the 2 blades touching on 'pen' style knife). What I typically carry is a GEC #48 2 blade Jack, or similar knife. But I'm biased as the #48 is my favorite pattern and GEC (about 1/3 of my GECs are #48s).

I think both are fine knives, it just depends on how you carry knives and what you want out of them.

No problem. Also... I weighed my micarta clip Hawthorn and #53 Cuban... The Hawthorn came in at 2.1oz while the #53 was 2.8oz. I'm not sure if flattening the bolsters affect the weight on the Presidential. Also, I think there's a typo on the Presdential's page... Being #53 based, I imagine these would also be 4 1/8" closed, not 4" even.
