Hi
I'm pretty new here and am planning on buying/selling/trading in the exchange forum and I want to know how transactions generally work.
I have a paypal account and all but I'm just trying to be cautious as internet transactions can sometimes go bad.

So could anyone please list the steps/actions taken by buyers/sellers/traders??

Thanks in advance!

And yes I know I'm only a registered member now, but I plan on buying a membership soon.

I would start by buying a Gold membership here if you want to sell anything. But while you contemplate that, you can start by reading through the suck threads, they are the ones in yellow at the top.

Here are the rules of the Exchange:

As far as steps, keep things simple, follow the rules, and honor your word.

Crone, if you'd like feel free to email me via the forums for any extra questions. I'd be happy to help by sharing my experiences on this forum. I've found a few good techniques that seem to help more often than not.

RevDevil,

I thought this post would be a good one to ask a question. It's my understanding that a purchase between two parties is not considered complete or finished until both parties are satisfied with the purchase.

I've read the rules, tips, etc. and cannot find an answer to my question, which is, why do Sellers in the Knife Exchange put in their post that they will not accept refunds? It seems like a contradiction to the established rules of the road. I'm definitely not trying to cause any issues, but if you could shed any light on this, I would appreciate the feedback.

If I missed a rule or guideline concerning this, I do apologize for wasting your time.

Thanks for your help,

Good question and not a waste of time. This is somewhat of an unwritten rule. The actual rule that is written states that no deal is completel until both parties have agreed to the terms os said deal. The former is something where the community as a whole takes action to some extent on matters. Thanks for asking.

There's no such thing as "No refunds" whether stated or not.Every buyer/trader should have a reasonable inspection period(48-72hrs?),to "inspect" their purchase.Pics & words can only say so much.JMHO

RevDevil,

Thanks for the explanation! Personally I would hope that a seller would not mind allowing the buyer a brief period for examination as mentioned by JTR357.

On the other side of the coin, I can understand a seller's reluctance to accept a knife back after it been in the hands of a buyer.

The condition of a returned knife could be a unpleasant variable in the transaction. However from what I've seen in my short time here on the forums,
it appears that most of the transactions go very smoothly.

This is my method:

If I buy a knife from someone here, I've already done my research and made up my mind that I want that particular piece. In good faith I am buying it, sending money ahead of time as all transactions usually go. Most sellers just want to sell their items and move onto the next bigger, better thing with minimal incident. I can either choose to pay the asking price, or make an offer via email or PM. The seller can then choose to sell or not to me based on my presentation.

If I get buyers remorse, that is not the sellers problem, nor should I make it their problem. Reasonable inspection time can turn around and bite people on the tail. Unless the item is misrepresented, I would not bother with a reasonable inspection period as a buyer. It's upto the buyer to ask questions, make sure they can afford to buy the item, and ask for whatever it takes to make them comfortable with the purchase. The guys and gals on the Individual Exchange are not stores, and can't keep on sending a knife out for "a test drive to see if it fits or carries well". To me, it's unreasonable. Just my 2 cents.

Coincidentally, the Exchange rules do recommend strongly that questions be asked, pctures be posted that are clear, in focus and well lit, as well as other things to prevent incidents from happening. No everyone bothers with that stuff unfortunately. It would make experiences much more pleasant if they did.
