How do you actually buy a GEC knife?

I've recently been looking at some GEC knives and find the process of trying to find one in stock very frustrating...for example I see a picture posted here of a #33 pattern knife that appeals to me, I do a Google search and come across this dealer's page - great, I'll look at some bone, stag and wood options! - oops, looks like there aren't actually any in stock...try another dealer's page, looks like lots of options to choose from there - nope, no #33 in stock...try other dealers, other patterns that appeal ("Beer Scout Knife"), etc. - results are similarly frustrating...

Should I just assume knives from this brand are generally limited productions that must be either snapped up quickly as soon as available or bought on the aftermarket?

You go to any number of authorized dealers. Which can be found on this site, or on the GEC site

I normally buy from Dealers who support this site.

Lots of dealers leave their out of stock knives still advertised, so google searches for that pattern take you to their website. That is the cause of your frustration. I dont buy from those dealers and encourage others not to. There are other GEC dealers who only advertise knives they actually have for sale.

It is basically a matter of vigilance. All runs are small and very popular. You just have to stay on it, and if you put in the time you will score on SOME knives. I missed out on the 2014 forum knife repeatedly (again today!).

Yes. Some of the more unpopular ones hang on for a bit but the popular ones go fast.

I -being far across the ocean- have little choice other than to make my purchases of GEC from internet dealers.
I've never had a problem -other than the waiting time which has been up to 6 weeks and as little as 2 weeks.
I have learned that
-some dealers will not post to Australia which is disappointing but there is a way round that.
-some dealers need to be a bit tidier around the website -knives that have been out of stock for ages are still featured on the site-no biggy but definite grounds for disappointment.
-some dealers charge exorbitant postage rates whilst others have very reasonable rates-keeping in mind that sometimes the postage has almost doubled the cost.
-if there's a knife that is in production there will be hype that I will miss out eg the up coming snakewood viper-I've reserved one already with my go to guy who is not BF aligned so can't mention the name.

Yes.
This would most certainly apply to knives with a particular handle material that you like the best.
Cheers.

-there is an element of truth to the hype as some of these do sell out quickly -Charlows spring to mind -
-I need to temper the hype with the fact that there are many GECs that have been sitting on the shelf for 7 or 8 years in some cases.
