how do you all dispose of surefire waste?

i was just wondering. i don't even have a surefire, although the nitralon models are within my price range. ;)

but as i was browsing the surefire website, the m6 caught my eye. 500 lumens! holy crap!!! after i got over the shock of seeing the words "500 lumen output" for a friggin flashlight, i noticed it said "...for twenty minutes."

these things take 6 lithium batteries and put out light for 20 minutes. many of the other surefire lights appear to be just slightly more efficient.

so i ask, how do you all dispose of lithium batteries? are they safe to just toss in the trash?

While it is possible to put them in typical household trash, they really shouldn't be disposed of that way.

Hazardous waste like household bateries should be disposed of as hazardous waste. This is not unlike used motor oil. It is so covenient for me at work, that I have never realy pursued another option.

In my case, if I had to, I would store them until the semi-annual hazardous waste pick up day arrives at the local garbage/recycling drop off place.

I save my used lithium batteries from my Surefires and put them in my Inova X5T. They work just fine! :)

Eventually, I'll have to find a place to trash them. :(

how often do you all go though sets of batteries? Will this be an addictiing thing to use and end up spening tons of money on batteries?

Lithium is a toxic metal, so it shouldn't be thrown away with the trash like alkalines. Best to find out your town's guidelines regarding hazardous material disposal, and follow suit. I save all my non-alkaline batteries and drop it off at the nearest recycling center as listed in the Dept of Sanitation's website.

I go through a battery on my E1 every two or three weeks.

Like Mr. Benyamin, I, too, "recycle" partially-depleted batteries by using them in more efficient setups.

:)

I've yet to dispose, permanently, of a single 123 battery...but that day will come eventually, and I do appreciate the advice of those of you who are offering it on this thread! Thanks!

you're a good man, tony. ;)

dumborat, i haven't disposed of any 123's either. i've had my x5 for about a year now. the original sanyo's it came with are still in, and i have a roll of surefire spare batterties that are just collecting dust. i guess i don't use this stuff as much as i'd like.

The Radio Shacks down here take them.

I havent had to throw away or even use SF123s for a good while now...

More detailshere

Between these and Pilas, i havent used up a Lithium primary cell for ages. They dont work on all Incandescant lights, but work a treat with most regulated LED lights.

What about all the lamp assemblies? At $25 plus a pop, what a waste....My P61 120 lumen assemblies don't exactly burn for hundreds of hours!

LED is the way to go, unless you need the light for long range tasks.

If you're interested in the SF M6, check out the Tigerlight. Also known as the "poor man's M6" :D . It puts out about 285 lumens, IIRC, throws farther(?) than the M6, runs longer(about an hour), and you don't need to spend any money on batteries because it's rechargeable  .

Hey Guys...

another around the eating of batteries problem is to get a rechargable setup...

My X10D rocks, can be recharged and throws light for a Very,,very long way...

It is a constant companion on all our hunts, and have used it several times for tracking at night...

You probably don't need an X1,,but the G2/Z2 combatlight in recharable would do nicely...

I do like that charger set up though..

how much are those ?? Batts ??

ttyle

Eric....

Here is the latest update on CPF

Diamond Cut II : LEDs can be made to throw every bit as well as an incadescant, but most manufacturers seem to be hung up on the small form factor that LEDs allow. Stick a 5 watter in a decent sized reflector, and it will match most incans up to ~100 lumens.
They cant quite match the Surefire HOLAs just yet, but its only a matter of time...

as far as the batts go i just throw them away, but rarely do as i use them first in a SF, then my inova/etc like all the rest of us.
they seem to last quite a while like that.

as far as bulbs, have never had a SF bulb blow, have about 5 of them and use them daily (or nightly lol) but have not blown a bulb yet, have i just been lucky?? i havent even lost a bulb yet on the SF on my M4, which suprises me........

I have a one light that i have had for about 6 years and carried nightly while on duty, it still has the same bulb it came with, it's a Streamlight Scorpian. But I think this has just been luck.
