Just how do you obtain a Busse knife? I went to their site and could not find any catalog of knives or models for sale. I read the forum with all the model variations and would like one. Do you order them like Randalls? I live a few miles from his shop, should I go there tomorrow and see if I can purchase one? Thanks

You live a few miles from the Busse shop?:eek::eek:

Good lord. And you haven't gone by? If you do "swing by" (and yes you should), be sure to tell Amy-O I said hi and thanks for everything.

We order them 3 ways:

1) we order whatever the current offering is on bussecombat.com

2) we order whatever gets put up on the bussecompanystore.com (page 3&4 of "order here").

3) secondary market on the exchange forum here.

There's also the Blade shows and the random Extravaganzaaaas. Go get yourself something by whatever means possible. Which model grabs you the most?

You can order a Scotch Dispenser on the Busse Combat web site but there will be a wait of several months.

You can go to the Busse Company Store and order a Game Warden or a Badger Attack and get it delivered in a few days. Those two knives were in stock the last time I checked.

You can go to the exchange and get anything you want if you throw around enough money.

You can go to Blade West and buy a Busse at the booth.

You can wait for a 'ganza and try your luck (it's a fierce competition that is known to make grown men cry).

Send me lots of money and wait by the mailbox!

I would start by getting a second mortgage.

Trust me, you're going to need it. :D :D

zman308,
You could order them like Randall Made but, you'll have to order from the Busse Custom Shop, I've heard that prices start at about $100 per (blade?) inch and the waiting period is from two to ??? years. Cost and waiting period depending on partial or full custom knife requested and some things are not available at all, such as snakeskin micarta. ( Jerry is out of that, isn't he ? Or is he saving that for the ASH-1 LE? I would think that he'll offer tiger micarta for the ASH.)
Secondary markets include the Exchange on this forum, 'that auction site', some of the knife shows such as Blade West and some of the gun and knife shows like Knob Creek. Busse knives are not easy to get and some older and more desirable models are nearly impossible. Good luck, happy hunting and have fun. Pete

If you are midwest, you could also swing by the central/southern Ohio shows (peoplesrights.org) as well as the Indy 1500 (indy1500.com) shows I set up at to check several models against each other....

The Knob Creek shoot (machinegunshoot.com) outside Louisville is coming up too, and Busse will have a trough set up there.

zman308, welcome to our crazy little world. As you can see by the answers, you don't buy a Busse in the same way as most knives. They do NOT have a catalog to order from. And you are NOT able to drop in on them to place an order. They do a ton of military orders, so the shop is closed to the public. Read the stickies at the top of the forum, it will help a little.

Was there a specific model you wanted? You can try to post a "Want to Buy" on the Exchange, but NOT here.

It is all a little disorienting for newbies, think of it as our version of a secret handshake. Once you figure it all out, you're in!

Zman,
Welcome to the Forums, I hope you stick around and join in the discussions.

I would not "swing" by the shop, especially un-announced. Busse runs a closed shop, so no tours, etc. Un-announced visitors will probably receive a less than welcome welcome ;)

Call them and see if they have anything available at the moment that you could see and maybe buy and ask what they would like to do. 419-923-6471

:D:D

You get lucky like I did and pick up your first Busse from the company store, only to find out another extremely desirable Busse was made available between the time you ordered and the time you received it but for only a short period of time and it was gone quicker than lightning and you were so Busse naive you missed out only to watch other forum members post beautiful pictures and brag about it. You then become obsessed and you go to the Busse company store 5-10 times a day and refresh to ensure you do not miss anything ever again. :D

Busse has a staple of tried and true models that come up at their site about once every 18 months or so which include the Battle Mistress, Steel Heart, Badger, Satin Jack among others. Busse only makes one model at a time, so when they are set up for that model they will take orders for it. If you miss out you have to wait another 18 months or so for the model to come back up. Every time they relaunch a classic model it always has undergone subtle changes (usually really cool ones) so each model is different and the Busse knives keep evolving. Another good place to buy Busse knives is on ebay. The prices are the cheapest online at the Busse Shop or the Busse Combat Site. Aftermarket prices you can check out at the Exchange forum here or on ebay. These are expensive knives, especially for knives manufactured in series, BUT, they are considered extremely high performance and they have a really sophisticated "design". The handle material is really exclusive and top notch. I think it's worth your while acquiring at least one, especially one of the big ones like a Steel Heart or a Battle Mistress. Many Busse owners and collectors like to use and abuse their knives contrary to Randall collectors who mainly just hoard safe queens. My 2 sense.
