All,

I'm kind of interested who / how you buy knives, so I decided to create a little poll. The options are:

- From the maker, at a show or gathering
- From the maker, piece posted on website
- From an order placed with the maker
- From a dealer (new, mint piece)
- From a dealer (consignment or 2ndary market piece)
- From a collector, on some Forum
- From a collector or dealer, on eBay
- From a collector, outside of the forum or eBay
- From a collector, with the maker acting as intermediary

Click all that apply, as they say.

I checked them all since I have done at least one.

My preference is to order from the maker and that is how most of my knives have been added to my collection, but if something shows up or I get a line on something that I am interested in I do not have aversions to purchasing it.

The first 6 all apply for me. I have bought once or twice on Fleabay, but not in a long time.

Most of my knives are ordered directly from the maker. In the opinion of some, I have "too many" of those. ;)

well, Roger, at least too many ordered at one time from one maker lol. I use all but the last one and all the time. I buy the knife/price/maker/maker/price/knife so I'm not tied to one method of purchase.

Well, aren't you just a fabulous, illuminating ray of sunshine in this otherwise, drab and regimented little segment of the knife community!;)

For shame that we might actually try to give new collectors some guidance based upon experience!

(This comment is actually a little tongue-in-cheek humor....not my usual meaness, take it as you will)

I've done it all except the new, mint piece from dealer and buying from a collector via the dealer (I have sold a knife this way though).

being only 16, I tend to make an order with a maker. I enjoy knowing the fine craftsman of the blade. I have also bought one from a show, from a maker I've met with before.

From the maker, at a show or gathering
From an order placed with the maker
From a dealer (new, mint piece)
From a collector, on some Forum

At the begining it was order from the maker almost exclusively, now it's mainly from a dealer or the forums.

Here's my mix of ways of purchase.

1) From an order placed with a maker. - most.
2) From the maker @ shows or gathering. - many.
3) From a collector outside forum or eBay. - quite a few.
4) From a dealer new/mint. - not many
5) From a collector on eBay. - only one.

These days, it's mostly from the maker at a show (and that show is Blade). However, in the last year, I've also purchased a couple of moderately priced (under $200) knives from dealers and I currently have one piece on order from a maker.
