The coated blades are a no-brainer - leave them alone and they are fine. The coating is very corrosion resistant by itself.

But the shiny satin blades are a different story. They are easier to stain or even rust. My recommendation is to use a little Renaissance wax as I have never had a problem when using that - but I wondered what you guys use?

I haven't experienced any problems with stain or even rust on my Active Duty though it has a satin finshed blade. Maybe because of daily use ... ? Even colouration did not occur when cutting garlic, raw meat or exotic fruit. However I almost always rinse and wipe the blade clean with a soft microfiber cloth after use ...

The only problem I have had is a very slight staining in the choil area of my AD. Super-fine steel wool took care of that. For the knives that may be coming in contact with food, I occasionally lube with a bit of mineral oil. Otherwise I use a bit of Militec. Reallistically though, I don't do much with them besides wipe them down and keep them clean.

Cheers,
BJB :D

For my satin or uncoated blades along with my EDC which gets sweated on I use S-L-I Liquid Gunsmith. This is a synthetic oil developed for NASA that actually penetrates the steel and dries. After drying it will not attract dust or lint. It will also (from a blurb on the bottle) "Prevents corrosion from moisture, fingerprints, perspiration, salt air and black powder." One application is all that's needed except for the edge if you resharpen. It ain't cheap at about $15 for a 4oz bottle, but 3-5 drops is enough for a BM sized blade.

I learned about this from the BPCR crowd since it is one of the best things going to prevent black powder corrosion. I'll try and post a link if anyone is interested. Also will prevent freezing in full auto weapons if anybody has any of these toys.

I used Ren wax for a while, but it turned into a serious pain in the butt for me. Even after the thinnest application that stuff was a b**** to rub in and bring the knife back to it's natural appearance. After time I noticed that my satin blades (that were protected with ren wax) started to get cloudy. It was easily remedied by a few swipes with a cloth.

For a while now I've been using the marine tuff-cloth, its more protection than my blades will ever need and is extremely user friendly. Goes on easy, drys fairly clean, and polishes much faster than ren wax. Another added bonus is no clouding. Keeping them in padded cases will put a slight pattern in the application layer, but wipes smooth in one stroke when you need to put them out on display.

If anyone would like to sample the ren wax marc has mentioned, i've got an almost full container I will never use on my blades again. Same as my other give aways....first one to post here gets it.

Freezing as in garden variety siezure or freezing as in moving parts reacting to extreme cold?

a home brew of sorts...keeps em nice and shiny and keeps the bad stuff away, including mozzies.

Tuff cloth works well to. I find that even on the coated blades, after use, this brings them back to new again...

Sorry man, I think F0S beat you to it this time :)

FoS, if you want it just email me your shipping info. If not let still let me know so moocher over there can have it ;)

Sorry, Mooch :D ;)

I am going to give the stuff a try :) If it doesn't float the boat, I'll pass it along. Thanx DN, E-mail inbound

I believe it was garden variety freezing. This wasn't from the manuf, but from some guys doing heavy sustained full auto fun. Could be wrong tho, you should get some and try it out when the weather turns nippy up there.:D :D

I left dirt on mine for two months and just realized it today, so I went and washed it off in the nearest stream.

Blasted college. I'm taking it to the dorm with me this time so I can keep an eye on it. It tries to go out and play too much. :)

lemon pledge, use it on my rifles too. i got it from a old gunsmith who had hundreds of people touch his rifles everyday. cleans and protects just like it does on fine furniture.
i also use it on the leading edge of my airplane wings and prop, the bugs just wipe off very easy.
