How do you carry a machete?

So I'm thinking of taking a machete out this year for my adventures. I've always taken a hawk or hatchet and sometimes just a SAK:eek: but I want to try something new. Broaden skill sets and all that. Plus machete's look like fun.:D So the question, how do you carry your machete? I'm looking at two types of situations primarily. The first is full on day pack or back pack and the second would be a short hike with something like a maxpedition H2O kit. Any and all ideas welcome.

Mine is in my trunk. Hasnt left in some time. lol

Id say a Baldric or lashed to my pack. Thats the only ways Ive carried mine.

Baldric, but only so I have hands free to carry stuff I've cut with it back to the nest. Similarly, I use a baldric to free my hands up when I've used an ax to gather wood. For transportation proper, in the pack, in a bit of drain tube.

The only machetes I have are a coldsteel kukri machete and a no name that my dad had for probably 20 years before I got it. The cold steel sheath is garbage and the no name sits in a homemade sheath of cardboard and a piece of binder plastic. The only way to safely carry them is inside of my bag... Even then I have to watch out everytime I go digging for something :D

You should just carry it in hand everywhere you go so you're ready for action at a moments notice...

Here's a handy-dandy adjustable quick-release cross belt system I rigged up. It distributes weight evenly across both sides of the body, and makes for nicely stabilized carry.

Forgive the stern face--I had the sun in my eyes! :p

Like the Sam Browne style set-up ya got there. Personally, I find plain old belt carry (either strong side, or crossdraw) to work just fine, but the heaviest machete I carry is a Condor Golok, and my typical user is a 12" Ontario. So there's a bit of weight difference between those, and what 42B is carrying. I'd go baldric if I was concerned about weight, but so far it hasn't been that big an issue.

I've used a baldric type system, and on my belt. Although I really do prefer just to carry them in my hand, as when I need it.. I really do need it.

Thanks! In addition to helping with weight and stability, it also works nicely as an overbelt when wearing a jacket. Even when carrying lighter pieces I find it to be a most convenient arrangement. :)

I make kydex sheaths for all of my machetes. Usually they are kept I'm my pack, but I have clips to throw them on a belt.

That said my machetes are only 12-14."

I can see how a baldric would be helpful on bigger chet's

I usually have mine lashed on the side of my pack or crossdraw on my belt. Baldric carry looks like a good way to go though.

You mean that little kick at the butt end? What machete is that one?

Yes, that little kick. It's the BRKT Custom Machete. Basically, it's an 18" Ontario heavy machete that has been cut down to 14", stripped, fully convexed, re-profiled, and had custom handles and SharpShooter leather sheath added.

Here's a picture of mine. It's the newer version, so you can compare the handles to the older one Mike posted.

For the record... these are some intense machetes. Pricey, but they are some serious choppers.
