how do you carry your wallet?

anyone got a cool method of carrying it to insure it won't slip out the back pocket??

for the most part, i really hate putting things in my pocket. it's just uncomfortable (and those "empty your pockets" threads just kill me).

anyone know of a way where i could keep my wallet on my belt, but have it for fast access? comfort and unobtrusive (discreet, please, no fanny packs) are important. i'm not looking as much for another pouch that i can put my wallet in, as much as a wallet that goes on the belt alone...

suggestions?

Midget,

I just recently changed the way I carry a wallet. I got the idea after someone posted a thread hear about it. I just went to a front pocket wallet. This has done a few things. It took the pressure off my back from carrying a wallet in my back pocket. This used to be an issue when driving etc. It also forced me to carry only things I really need bacause the wallet is more slim and has slots for about 6 cards in it. I was amazed at all the business cards, punch cards for coffee etc that were stuffed into my wallet and forgotten.

The wallet I have allows you to have your ID on the front in a ID badge window, 6 cards on the inside, and a clip on the rear for holding cash. You can pick one up at most mens departments. I bought a Fossil which was relatively inexpensive at <$20. Of the styles available I prefered the ones with a metal clasp for holding money, they also sell some which use a spring clip or a magnet as well. The clasp semed most secure to me.

Another consideration was that my state just recently passed a CCW law and getting the wallet out of my rear pocket would make accidently flashing a gun while paying for something much less likely.

Here's my solution. I thought of it last night.

Do you ever see the wallets that are just two-fold, with the ID window in the front, and only like two pockets on the inside? It's got some velcro that holds it shut.

So I just "wrap" that around my belt and close it. Seems to work out ok, and is fairly out of the way.

It's an old Navy trick for the sailors to carry their wallets ( when in dress whites in town on liberty) tucked in their waist band half in ,half out. (No
belts/pockets on whites) Carring the wallet this way places half against the
skin to avoid pickpockets or loss. The "wrap around the belt" method you
describe, sorry to say, exposes you to both pickpockets and loss.

I,too, (for my own reasons) don't carry anything in my pants pockets. I carry
all that I need in a small belt pouch THAT IS FIRMLY FASTENED TO MY BELT.
A belt pouch is not all that odd in mans history as it is as old as man. So I
don't see (or much care) that I'm just a bit different ,fashion wise, than
today's styles. Make sure the pouch is either black or oxblood (maroon)
in color and it will disappear on your belt from notice.

Definitely carry it in your front pockets. Not too hard to figure out. You will definitely notice if some guy tries to reach in to steal it.

I have an Eagle Creek pouch that I wear on my belt sometimes. I don't use it as a wallet, although it would work for that. It doesn't hold much, but it lies fairly flat, so it is easy to conceal under the hem of a sweatshirt or untucked shirt.

Check out this Chris Reeve Wallet/Coin purse - two compartments to separate coins from notes and credit cards. Securely stitched calfskin leather. Made by Gfeller Casemakers (makers of the One-Piece line sheaths). 3.75" wide x 4" high, closed. I carry mine in a flapped or buttoned shirt pocket.

I sometimes carry a small rayskin wallet with loads of cards and bills in my left front pants pocket. Never carry in a back pocket, or a long wallet in a coat pocket. That's just asking to get it snatched.

You can also get a "Taxi Wallet" that's actually about the same size as a normal small wallet, with a coin purse built in, but it has a snap to hold it on a belt. I don't trust a wallet hanging on a belt, though.

I've never liked carrying my wallet in my back pocket...makes sitting uncomfortable...

The front pocket feels better and makes me feel safer...

Nowadays however i wear pants with zips in the front pocket...that way it'll make it much more difficult for the pickpockets...

Pride goeth before a fall. :D

One man bumps you on the right, turns to you and apologizes profusely. Other guy on your left slits the bottom of your pocket with a razor blade, the wallet drops into his hand and he's off while his confederate is distracting you.

Carry it in your front pocket. HA!

I'm still a student and can wear jeans with top opening front pockets, not those damned rear opening dress pants pockets that will drop everything out once you sit down. My wallet sits nice and deep and a quick graze of my hand ensures me that my keys are still clipped to my beltloop, my BearClaw is still in its sheath, and my wallet is still in my pocket.

It also has the added security/defense advantage of placing my knife in line with the path that I'd take to get my wallet.

You see...that's gonna be difficult...
My pants have a normal front pocket and within that normal front pocket is another pocket with the zip...so if he slits it all that's gonna do is slit the outer pocket...if he slits it deeper it's just gonna make the wallet fall down the pant leg....or he might have slit my leg and that would definitely alert me.....

One way they could do it is in a crowd and he'll have to unzip the inner pocket...and pick it out....even i have trouble taking it out sometimes...especially when i have my knife clipped to the pocket....

So best way for him to do it is ... take my knife out...and threaten me with it...i'll give it to him in an instant....heheheh....

Find some regular fit jeans and carry it in the front pocket... only problem is they print through... But ya dont have to worry about cyatic nerves if its in a front pocket! Just gotta worry about the nerve if ya have on cheek in the air on a tri-fold wallet :p
