How do you prefer to carry your knives? and why?

I assume it depends what your doing and where you're going, but do you have a preferred option? I ask because while a fan of JK's belt sheaths but I have been trying horizontal carry for a change.

I tried some of my own a year or so ago (I know, terrible, but they worked at least and I was happy - the third from the left is an Alan Davis knife and sheath FYI, normal belt carry)

Something I appreciate about Raybans sheath is that he kept the main purpose ( I think) of horizontal carry in mind, he kept it thin so it didn't drag the back of my pants down or get in the way.

Why horizontal? I like smallish knives because they can go more places with me without having to think about it much, all the better if they can do most things as well. I like horizontal carry for the same reason. It is out the way, yet easy enough to access.

I tried cross draw last night and it had it's own advantages, (easier access being the main one) but later when i tried to get my lighter out I found it did block y pocket a little.

Hi KYe -

I have never had a sheath like that - and I like the idea of the horizontal carry. Very nice work by rayban.

I typically use the standard type of sheath.

I used to carry my Izula in my back pocket in the stock sheath, with a custom fob dangling out for retrieval - like when I was working in the yard etc.

best regards -

I carry my Izula horizontal cross draw. It's the most convenient way to get at it while in a sitting position. I also like that I can wear my shirt untucked and it easily covers and conceals the knife.

I have also carried some of my smaller JK blades like the Fieldmate, Sparkler and "Snubnose" (that's what I call it) as fixed blade pocket knives. The leather pocket sheath Stomper made for the Sparkler also fits my Fieldmate perfectly. The Snubnose has a Kydex sheath. I actually have the Snubnose on me right now!

Cool thanks guys, so do you prefer to carry the izula for every day,or a small jK?

Don't think I've see the "snubnose" sounds like my next forum search, :), I've been playing what knife fits in what sheath as well, my Izula with micarta can sit in the JK baby Kephart sheath for example. It comes out a little more but sometimes that extra bit of handle sticking out is a good thing.

Seems like I've had this problem before: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ke?p=10210173&highlight=snubnose#post10210173 :D

Most of my fixed blades are small and carried in my back pocket.

Front pocket or the breast pocket of a coat(kydex). Sometimes with the sheath attached with paracord to a belt loop.

Hi Kyenglish,, great thread topic

I do love horizontal carry for smallish knives, however I only have one knife/sheath combo with this option. sometimes I like to wear it cross draw tho.
for my chopper, I have a drop loop style from Chuddy Bear. It is a great sheath, albeit a little heavy. My horzo sheath is also from Chuddy BTW.

Really sorry I have been remiss in snapping a pic but finally took a few minutes to do that tonight. Here she is....

I call her the Snubnose because she came nameless and that is what this knife most reminds me of. An easily pocketable piece that could serve as a protector in a way that is out of proportion to it's size. Small and dependable, nothing to snag and little (or in the case of the JK) nothing to go wrong.

It was designed by one of John's daughters who is also a police officer. (With the contest, her name escapes me). She really did a great job and this is my EDC piece for work. I wear dress clothes and it carries just fine with a folded bandanna to break up the shape a bit.

The specs.....

5 1/8" OAL
2 1/4" O1 Blade w/ 2" long cutting edge
Just under 1 1/4" at the widest point

The blade is chisel ground with a wide belly that also allows for a sturdy point. Both of these features work well and make it fairly handy as a utility knife.

The handle is perfectly chunky at 3/4" and provides an amazingly comfortable and secure grip. I have jabbed a few pieces of wood and maybe even a phonebook and was really pleased with how well the grip performs.

At only 5 3/4" OAL in the kydex sheath, it really is a small, unobtrusive package. The sheath also has enough of a surface on the top to allow me to use my thumb to unsheath it while it is still in my pocket, which is very handy. I attached a short tail throught the lanyard hole to provide a bit more control when unsheathing it. I also added a "static cord" that I can loop through a beltloop and provide a breakaway style draw, although I rarely carry it that way.

All in all, a really great design that I am surprised was not more popular.

Cool, sorry for late reply, not able to get on her much right now, thanks for the picture and the info, it does look like an ultra useful knife

I carry folder in right front pocket. Victorinox cybertool in left front. Leatherman wave and fixed blade of some sort in right side pocket.
Here is the Victim.

I like a drop loop on the right side belt for bigger blades.Smaller blades I'll carry in either the back or side cargo pocket.
I usually have one of my pistolas cross draw.

I prefer belt carry. I carry my folder on the right side and my fixed blade on the left. I carry the fixed blade with a high riding sheath. That way it doesn't get in the way when sitting or driving, less noticiable and dissapears completely when wearing a long shirt or jacket.

Man, I really tried hard here but, I just couldn't let this one go! I carry mine slug over my shoulder! Oh, your talking about knives! Sorry! LOL! I guess I have just been couped up in the house too long! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Thanks for the laugh you guys!
