How do you carry - reccomendations

Hi there, I have recently acquired abeautiful YCS Khukri (thanks Yangdu and Sher).

I have been carrying it on my morning or evening walks when I exercise my dogs.

I started carring it on a belt, tucked behind my right quad, and found that whilst its nice and out of the way there its slightly slow to draw (Not a real issue - just a note), and it was/is quite a weight, sertainly not bothersome but very noticable (its 28 oz, about 750 grams).

So after some advice I tried carrying it on a strap, sort of like a baldric, I am actually using a camera bag strap, which whilst very strong and about the right length its a little narrow. This method is great!
I can let is sit on my right side or toss it around to the small of my back, I can throw the ball for the dogs, bend down and pick things up, and get it out and chop at stuff without it getting in the way.

So what I want now is a custom made leather strap, someone posted a pic of their rig here a while back, it was fantastic and I would love to see more photos of that, or other shots that people have, and I am thinking of getting a custom made leather strap, if i could sew leather i would try making one myself, but the machine that my wife has would not handel leather i am afraid.
Basically I imagine I want something similar to a rifle sling, except a bit different - I have an idea of what i want in my head, so if anyone here either sews leather themselves or can reccomend someone (maybe on the sheath forum), then i would love to talk to them and of course pay them ,to make me what i want.

But in the meantime if anyone else has ideas on how they carry their rigs i would love to hear from you.
Cheers

I could be wrong but I believe one normally carries the khuk on their left side regardless of which is you dominant hand. Unless you reverse the frog for wearing it on the right I think you will find a much smoother drawing action by wearing it on the left and using your right hand to pull it out. You want to be able to pull it out in a way that draws the spine along the inside of the scabbard.

I didn't much like wearing my khuk on a belt either. Maybe a 12 incher or less would be alright on a belt but my 15 inch BC was pulling my pants down too much and I don't really like a super tight belt. The baldric style carry seems the best too me. I do not have a proper strap for that yet so I currently have an old chain dog leash looped through the frog. I just strap the chain around my waist, no belt loops or anything. The weight of the scabbard is enough to keep it hanging off my hip. It's not a great setup if you plan on being really active, running, jumping, and whatnot, but it is a nice quick way to carry when I am in the yard looking for unruly vegetation to trim.

On the left. Wearing it on the right makes drawing awkward for me because I am right handed. Wearing it on the left and drawing it out along the spine feels more natural than when it is on the right and my arm has to go back far to clear the blade of it's scabbard.

I usually will braid some paracord into a loop which will be long enough to be threaded through the belt loop on the khuk sheath and then go over my right shoulder. I hang the khuk on my belt on my left side. The combination of belt and paracord loop works like a Sam Brown rig, sharing the weight of the knife. The knife doesn't flop loose when carried this way.

I use a baldric system made by a forum member here. He hasn't been around in a while, and I don't know if he wants to do more of them.

The Sharpshooter link above is what I'd recommend for a ready-made one. The wide frog loop on HI sheaths works great with it. I put my AK Bowie on one I had laying around.

And yes, carrying crossdraw seems to work best with kuks.

If you want to take the really creative route, you can always go to Tandy Leather, and adapt a kit or a pattern somehow. Sewing leather isn't really that complicated.

One belt to hold up my pants & another to carry my Khuk & possibles pouch. Can prowl the woods all day, no problem.
