How do you carry your Emerson?

I was just reading Lifter4him's reply to the post "CQC7b in NYC". Lifter4him suggested carrying the knife unclipped from his pants and letting it ride in the bottom of your pocket. I assume (I hate to assume but, here goes...) that he suggested this so the knife is not visible. Reading that post brought this question up.

I have been carrying my Commander this way most times now. In California there is no blade limit law on a folder (the SIFU is very popular because of this).

I can hear some of you screaming already, that defeats the wave feature; your giving in the the politically correct crowd; it's too hard to access it when it is needed, etc.

I have found that around here (San Francisco Bay Area-the epicenter of political correctness and fanaticism) that now after the WTC plane hijackings with boxcutters/knives I cannot just
wear my Commander clipped to my pants. Oh, I could but......well, you know. Am I giving in? No. I'd prefer to fool myself and say I am running in stealth mode.

I have found that with certain pants with looser pockets I can reach in (right side front pocket) and pull out the Commander and also deploy the blade with the wave feature by dragging it along my pants pocket. It's pretty quick and one-handed too. When I'm at work I will clip it to my pants but always have a back-up secreted down inside my pocket that I can rely on if I loose the clipped one rolling around on the ground. (Mr. Murphy somehow always shows up when you least need him to!)

Does anyone else out there carrying there Emerson fully hidden in there pocket? Has anyone changed there carry mode in response to the WTC incident? Any thoughts about mode of carry?

Commanderfan,

My SOFCK is usually carried loose in my pocket. I tend to wear North Face / Pata-Gucci trousers and find that the knife hides just fine - I have even got used to doing a wave deployment this way.

No change to my knife carring habits (apart from I no longer have a multi-tool in my carry-on bag).

Hiya Commanderfan,
Thanks for letting me know that there is someone who actually reads my posts,LOL.
My suggestion for carrying it in the bottom of the pocket was really for situations like the guy's friend was in(ballpark) where he was afraid he was under extra scrutiny. Personally, I usually carry my knives clipped. I found another way to carry a large folder without detection is to wear it in one of the horizontal nylon sheaths on my belt while wearing an outside the pants shirt that covers the sheath.

i carry my CQC7 inside the waistband about two inches from my fly. The knife is tip up. I find the draw to be quick and it is very well concealed. its just a pain to put it back into place after using it.
I haven't changed my carry at all in response to WTC.

I wear,
RH Commander clipped in right front jeans pocket
RH CQC-7b clipped in left front jeans pocket

In warm weather, they are concealed by the long tail of my "Aloha" Hawaiian shirt. (As is my Kimber Ultra-Elite)

In cooler weather, my tac-vest covers all.

:D

Commanderfan:

I still continue to carry my Commander or P-SARK clipped to my RH front pocket. My CQC-7 goes in a nylon pouch clipped on my belt.

From a LEO's standpoint, pocket clips are always one of the first 'landmarks' to look for when dealing with people. FYI, for what its worth.

Hi!
Well, as for me, it differs from model to model.. if I am carrying the Commander, then I would have it in my right side pocket, or in my left right pocket...
If i am carrying a non-waved model like the Blackbird:D I would have it in a horizontal pouch on my left frontal side.
either way you carry a commander, its just as cool when you hear the "ker-twack"!

My Commanders I carry in a quick deployment Emerson Kydex sheath or simply in my right front pocket, using the clip.

I must say that the sheath is very cool. It keeps the knife high and tight against your body.

Err . . . . No, sorry. Not unless someone has those knife condoms that were discussed on her some time ago. :D

Seriously though, mine gets carried the same as any other knife I carry. Either clipped inside the waistband, pocket or attached to my bodyarmour if at work.

My figuring is if I need to use it I will, the fact that it's a custom gives me more pride of ownership (and the fact that I have a better made knife) but I don't want the thought that I may 'damage' it to be on my mind when my survival is far more important.

Why, with pride, of course!!!!!

Commander in right front pocket, SOCFK in front left for reverse ice-pick waved draw.

I carry my CQC6 on my waistband just behind my right hip, tucked under my love handles :D! This has proven to be the most comfortable and less obtrusive carry position for me.

But really, who cares about what other people think. If I want to carry my knife clipped to the lapel of my shirt then that's my perogative! The only reason I carry mine the way I do is because it feels good (rubbing along the fat of my love handles! ;)). Just wanted to add my .02 cents worth.
