How do you carry your everyday gear?

For those of you who carry pocket knives, flashlights, survival gear, and whatnot, how do you carry your everyday gear?

I'd appreciate suggestions that won't make me look any more geeky than I already do.

I asked the exactly same question a coupla months ago. I still don't have an answer for summer time. For winter time, I just keep most things in my jacket pockets -- Surefire in one pocket, pepper spray in another, cell phone in another, plus just one or two things actually on me (e.g., micra, knife).

For summer time, when wearing shorts, a fanny pack works best. When I'm dressed a little better ... there's still no good answer. The little packs that go on your belt, well, they just don't look that great.

Your best bet is cargo or carpenter's pants. Nuff pockets for anything. I carry most of my basic stuff in an Altoids tin survival kit that I made then knives in the various pockets LM Wave on my belt Photon, P-38, Sebertech M2, and dog tag on my key chain, lighter in one of my pockets (don't smoke of course). I may get some of those really long zip ties and put them inside my braided belt.

I know what you mean. If you're wearing a nice outfit and a blazer, you're kind of screwed. In winter, I jam things into my trenchcoat pockets. The mini-backpack my wife recommended is, unfortunately, really meant for women to use instead of purses. I'm currently looking into those belt bags that convert into shoulder bags.

Has anyone looked at a photographers vest? Some of them look fairly presentable.

I think that would aggravate my already significant geek factor. Grin. But thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah the photographer's vest may be a little geeky but how about a camera bag. I was looking at several at Wally World the other night and I think it would work well to carry a lot of stuff in. They are fairly cheap (>$10) and many can either go on the belt or have a shoulder strap included.
Hope that helped

I have carried one in the past. That may very well warrant some further thought. Thanks.

summer:
spyderco venator clipped inside waistband, above front right pocket.
left pocket: 550 cord tourniquet/strangler/hojo (feel free 2 ask!)
i sometimes carry a little clip or belt on bag; NOT a fanny pack; some cameras come with them and theyre just the right size for pepper spray. also if i feel a need to carry spray in the summer, i use the belt pouch that came with my Gargoyles glasses....inconspicuous and right size.
flashlight...in car; if the Scorpion is on my person i might put in the front button pocket of an overshirt, or in the gargoyles case.
this arrangement gives me at least 2 small weapon or light options, and leaves me front and back pants pockets for necessities like wallet, keys, KelTec .32, etc.
hope this helps...just my 2 cents

I am an amateur photographer, but do not use a vest. I have a camera bag that is a Tamrac backpack - much easier to carry than a shoulder bag. I use a basic Eastpak backpack for all other daily carrying chores. I teach Math at the college and am always carrying books or papers to grade back and forth. The backpack is unassuming and has little pockets that are just right for my Microtech LCC or Kestrel.
