When you look over at the pile of knives and toys by your side of the bed in the morning how do you choose what to carry that day, do you pick up each one and see if it needs to be carried, does your enviorment decide for you, office casual, minimalist to skate the companies no weapons policy?

Do ya throw a stockman into your EDC rotation outta habit, before ya climb into your truck and head out to the back forty?

For me every day offers endless choices but necessity chooses for me, what do I need that day, will it be a machette for cuttin' down the honeysuckle on the trail behind the house or comfy properly sharpened folder for cuttin' up miles of cardboard for the garbage.

How do you make the choice of what to carry every day and how thankfull are you that you live in a place where ya get to make that choice?

My knife selection is determined if I will be driving that day. If i am not driving that day, i EDC my HK Ally, which has a windown breaker at one end of the knife. If i will be driving my car, I EDC something else, usually a CRKT M16, since i already store a car window breaker in my vehicle.

I must wear a suit every day in an office environment, and my company policy specifically prohibits any EDC knife with a blade exceeding 3" (at least it's addressed by policy!). I usually carry a Case Tiny Texas Toothpick. I have a variety of these, so i rotate them to suit my tastes. My staff frequently ask me, "which one have you chosen today?" I sometimes choose the handle material or color to match my cuff links or necktie.

On special days (e.g., Christmas party day), I carry one of my CRK Mnandis. On weekends, I usually revert to one of my Striders or whatever feels right.

I dunno, how does one decide which pair of socks to wear, or shirt? A good knife selection depends on weight, size, what kind of clothing you're going to wear and just preference. I frequently carry my Cold Steel Voyager 4-inch serrated. It's light, feels great and cuts anything that can be cut. For walking, hiking and the like, I pick my 6-inch blade Voyager or my 5-inch Gunsite.

I also like carrying my Pro-Lite Tanto, my CRKT Desert Cruiser, M21-04, or M16-14LE. I also love the light weight Benchmade Ascent and, on occasion, my CRKT S-2 or M16-13Z. I don't normally carry anything much smaller than a 4-inch blade. Three-inchers are just too small, although sometimes I carry 'em as a second knife.

I'm a music/band teacher and I ususally take an Imperial or Vic. SAK. I need the tools constantly. Has 1 short spear blade for work, and a long spear for cake and such. Everytime I pull it out in front of the kids for a screwdriver to tighten a screw on a drum or bend a key on a clarinet or somethin, some of them go "ooh a weapon", I just say" Its not a weapon, its a tool." If I ever get fired for carrying it, I'll just go somewhere else and make a difference in the lives of some other kids with music, and keep on carrying it.

whether or not I want a knife to be clipped to my pocket or thrown down into it. More often than not I carry down inside the pocket so I choose the size of the knife based on what pants I am wearing.

It almost always comes down to a delica, meadowlark, or opinel.

The decision is hardest during the summer, as I always wear cargo shorts and can carry any knife.
