How do you clean and "fluff" your buffing wheels?

So, I was wondering how you professionals clean and "fluff" your buffing wheels. My tripoli wheels have almost a glazed surface and I turned them to rotate the reverse of what I had them going but I would like to really get them cleaned up. I have a wood rasp file that seems to have done okay but I suspect there is a correct way so I thought I would just ask....

How about your felt wheels?

There's a device called a buff rake. They're available from many, many places; pretty much all look the same.

Grab strongly in both hands, hunker up to the buffer, and strip off the old crap. Leaves you covered in cotton dust. Wear a respirator.

In a pinch, you can take a 12" chunk of 50 belt and make like your going to buff the crap out of it and it will load up with the grease from the wheel.

Been using the same buff rake since the mid 70s. They do a great job and nothing to wear out.

The buff rake is great, old 1" hacksaw blade or just a wire brush will do the job but hang on to it tight.

You can use a raked. Or throw something together like the other gentlemen was speaking of. I have a old file I use here. It work for me.

But here's a tip in helping reduce the problems one would encounter. Get some plastic grocery bags the small ones and place over your wheels when not in use. This will help in reducing the airborne steel dust particles from landing on the your wheels. :)

just me but i wouldn't use a 50 grit belt for fear of grit gettign on the wheel
