How do YOU "Coke Bottle" your handles?

Here are knives #4 and #5. I think I went a little too skinny on the back of #5, and not enough on #4. To me, somewhere I between would be the goal.

It's time tapering a tang too.

I start thick and sand down then test fit in my hand and do this overs and over in till I'm happy with the way it feels. Once you get a good fit and it looks how you want make a template. #5 is pretty close.

I get the start of my coke bottle fits after all bolt/pin holes have been drilled I use my 5" or 2" Contact wheels, depending on the size of the handle, to dish in the four curves, then after its Epoxied & pinned together along with dried,

I taken the platen out of my 2 x 72" and with my Finger skins on I work from the back of the belt pressing where I want the pressure to contour and shape the handle the way I want them.

PS, Anyone wanting to purchase Rhino Finger Skins, my site in down for ??? Should be back in a while?
Just PM me for skins and I'll get them out to you.

I use an 8 or 10 inch wheel in the rear of the handle and the front I usually flatten the sides with the disc sander.

I don't think you went too skinny at the rear, to me the rest of the handle is still too thick.

I use either an 8in wheel or flat platen to pre shape the contours. I do most of the work at the edge of the belt. 36grit makes this go quick. After that, a half round rasp cleans up the lines and evens things out. After that, files and sandpaper :)

Buy yourself a #49 or #50 Nicholson cabinetmakers/pattern makers rasp and learn to do it by hand first. Pricy, but you will never regret buying one.
