How do you cut a clean nail mark in a folder blade

I have been using a dremmel with a cutoff wheel but I am having a hard time getting a clean cresent shape with nice tapered ends. The dremmel tool also has a tendency to get away from me and ruin my blanks.

I also tried making a die to hot stamp the mark. It worked great on a block of wood but I can't get the depth and positon of the impression the way I would like in a piece of steel(again, ruining the blank).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

fly cutter is the best i think, i lot of guys cut one w/ a surface grinder after the blades have been heat treated.
