I have a couple of knives that I would like to add a sharpening notch to. Has anyone tried to do this before? If so what did you use? If you have done it yourself please post some pics for me!
Thanks for any help

I can't post pictures here, but I used an old Spyderco medium triangle. I held the knife in one hand, held the triangle in the other, and cut a 60 degree notch just above the plunge line on my Salt 1 plain edge and some paring knives. I try to keep the side of the notch closest to the handle at a 90 degree angle to the spine, and the notch tapers into the edge, so as to prevent snagging.

i bought a coarse diamond coated needle sharpener just for this purpose. it takes some patience and a light hand to avoid wearing the tool but it works.

Very similar tho I use a small diameter diamond burr bit. Light pressure and cut it manually - think I might have even drilled a hole in a piece of wooden dowel and used that as a handle. I personally don't much care for them except when an existing choil is already there and doesn't look quite right.

Whats a sharpening notch?

The indentation at the back of the blade, that allows a straight sharpened edge. Without it, the edge can sometimes get a little uneven right at the back, where the plunge lines meet the tang.

I am going to pick up a diamond file after work tomorrow and give it a try. Does anyone have pictures of the finished result?
