How do you display your blades?

I've got a bunch of knives shoved into a drawer that is about to overflow. I am thinking of building something along the lines of a shadow box in which to display them so I can enjoy them even when they are not in use. That in itself does not present a problem; but I also want to be able to retrieve them easily when the mood strikes me.

I'm thinking of a shadow box with maybe a plexiglass window and a green felt backing. Ideally the box would be lockable (to help keep out the kids). I am having trouble coming up with a way to hang the knives which will accommodate an expanding/changing collection. I'm thinking of magnets beneath the felt or possibly peg board and just punching through the felt. Whatever I come up with has to hang on the wall as space is limited.

My collection consists of mostly largish fixed blades and various folders. I would expect to display the folders with the blades open unless that might cuase damage over the long term.

You came up with the same solution I did - shadow boxes with sliding plexiglas doors. I picked up some stainless steel push-pins to support the knives on the back of the case. All I have to do now is stain the cases (3) 5' x 18" and mount them on the wall. The pins were found at a stationary store & measure 1" in length. Good luck on your project!

I don't display mine. I purchased several of the roll up knife bags from Smokey Mountain and take one out every now and them to fondle the contents. The rolls keep them from banging aginst one another and keeps the dust off them.

I store them in a BF knife bag and my 16-pocket Spyderpack.. :D

I have a couple of wooden boxes with foam covered with felt under the knives. I'd like to hang some large knives and swords on the wall. Any ideas on how to hang them?

I used to have my knives lined up on the top of my dresser. I have a rather smallish dresser though, and soon the clutter became annoying to me. (Yes, I'm a neat freak). So, while at the knife show in Novi, MI yesterday, I came across a table full of wooden display cases in all shapes and sizes. Perfect, just what I've been looking for. It's made of walnut and has a glass top, with 2 foamed-padded divided tiers. It fits nicely on my dresser and looks pretty sharp. Only thing is, I have lots of empty spaces in it! Hmm, gotta do something about that! ;) I don't have any expensive custom folders, so this suits me just fine.

I have a shelf above my bureau with a 1" strip on wood across
the entire front with a 1/4" gap just enough to clip all my knifes across it makes for a nice display

I got one of these cases originally. Ended up being much cheaper than all the other alternatives, and looks really nice too. Eventually I ran out of room, and added a barrister bookcase type display cabinet (plus some lighting, courtesy of Home Depot). Here's the link if you want to pursue the case shown below.

I have 8 knives that are always proudly displayed. Once a month I put up a new batch of knifes.

Several years ago the wife found a very old oak curio cabinet and had to have it for her antique nick-knack-cutesy-tootsey-girlie crap !

I put a end to that PDQ ! It took a while. . .but I covertly moved in a knife at a time until I had secretly conquered the upper shelf (OK. . .1/2 the upper shelf).

My EDC's are laid out on the dresser, in a very neat row, in our bedroom. The wife makes me covered them with one of her friggin' cutesy-tootsey-girlie doily things. God. . .the knives hate that $hit!

The rest of my "gathering" reside snugly in their lined storage pouches in a safe. Which, by the way, is guarded by my wifes cutesy-tootsey-girlie tea-friggin-cup Yorkshire Terrier !

I'm so ashamed !

Now you know why I "gather" knives ! :D

Thanks Mark.., that's a nice looking case for the $$$.., appreciate you posting that!

I have my knives displayed on our old dining room table. The table is down in my cavelike computer room in the basement. I just cover the table with a tablecloth and lay them out. I need a bigger table.:)
