How does 12C27 compare to other stainless steels, and in particular to the common ones like 440C, ATS34, and 154CM? Do you like it as a blade steel? Thanks.

I have a couple of nice knives with 12C27 but the only one that got any hard use was a dagger that came with a needle point and a typical dagger dull edge. After I got my Sharpmaker, I was easily able to put a pretty nice edge on both sides. It seems like a good steel, and is certainly tough. I bought it after seeing a review where Sgt. Breed stood on it, suspended between cinderblocks.

Many Laguioles use 12C27 also.

I think it's an okay steel for a blade. My balisong's (bm-42) blade is 12C27, and it holds a pretty nice edge. Carbon steel still cuts better though IMHO.

It's a good economic steel, one I would take over the popular AUS6 in economy knives. It's not the best but is satisfactory.

You know what, if there some options available to you, go with D-2, BG-42 or S30V.

I know P. J. Tomes has been known to use it on some of his folders. Thats gotta say something for 12C27.

I had an Outdoor Edge knife that had 12C27, it sharpened easy and took a scary edge. I liked it alot.

It is a little softer than the other steels that you mention. It is usually hardened into the 56-58 RC region, but seems like it may be as soft as 54 in some scandinavian blades. The other steels you listed are commonly in the 58 to 60 RC range and will hold an edge longer than 12C27. I prefer 12C27 because I can get it sharper than those other alloys.
