How do you find satisfaction in your fixed blade?

Just asking, I seem to be really attracted to folders mostly because if wanted they can be carried everywhere. But with something like a fixed blade, it's not really like that.
Basically, I have been wanting a sebenza for a while now, nothing anyone says will change that, but obviously because of the pricing, the RC-4 could be bought sooner. Like tomorrow sooner. I would buy the RC-4, only that I couldn't actually use it all the time. How do you guys look forward to new knives of that classification, and how do you put them to good use?

I recently got an Izula and I carry it just like a folder. It slips right in to my right front pocket and doesn't bother me a bit. I still enjoy folders, but I've definitiely got another one in the EDC rotation.

Other guys on here talk about EDCing the HEST and RC-3s. I can't comment on that, but some people do it.

I guess I have an advantage over the OP in that fixed blades are legal to carry.

I do everything with fixed blades that you can do with a folder.

RAT has a folder coming. I think it just moved upa couple places int he development list to number 4737!

Skip the RC-4 for now and try an Izula. It is definitely a "goes everywhere" knife. Rides easily in a pocket.

After you've had the Izula for a while, you'll end up wanting an RC-3 or 4 too.

Nothing wrong with a Sebenza, but for that knd of money you could have an Izula and an RC-4 and still have some gas money for a camping trip.

I know exactly where you're coming from. My first fixed blade of any worthwhile quality was an RC-6, I bought about a month ago. I wanted a larger survival-type blade, and the RC-6 fit that bill beautifully in every aspect. Fit and finish, durability, value, it's all there, so then I purchased an RC-4 and an Izula. I've carried folders every day for as long as I can remember, I have a few really nice ones, (no sebenzas, my current EDC is a ZT 0301) but you can't go wrong with a RAT cutlery knife. Just find the one that fits your needs by size and you're all set. I would recommend an Izula for a good EDC blade, or an RC-3 / H.E.S.T. for something a little larger for EDC use. I hope that helps, best of luck to you!

Like everyone else has said, the Izula is a great EDC fixed blade, and is actually smaller than most of my folders. And where I live the RC3 can be carried most of the time without any problems. It's all about selecting the right tool for the application.

I think it all depends what you will be using the blade for. I mostly use a knife outdoors for survival/bushcraft stuff. I can't really do any of that with a folder.

If I was just using a knife to cut rope and open boxes, sure a folder would suffice but I'd still use an Izula! lol

I guess (for me) it really boils down to trusting the lock in a folder vs not ever worrying about it with a fixed blade.

GET OUTSIDE. Go camping, backpacking, get out into the woods and away from civilization. A nice knife is then quickly needed. A nice solid fixed blade knife. You can get a HEST or Izula and easily EDC them in front pocket. I have yet to find a pair of pants that shows any sort of bulging or anything with my hest, and I leave the scales on.

a folding knife is a machine. fixed blades for me at least appeal to my primitive need for strength in tools..not unlike an obsidian knife..simple yet effective

I try to separate my uses for my folders and fixed blades. I tend to do all my carving/survival taks with my fixed blades Regular cutting--daily stuff with my folders.

I have 4 edc folders and 2 main fixed blades at the moment. Gonna have to sell of the rest of my collection though unless I find a job real quick:P

I get satisfaction from my fixed blades, particularly the larger ones, mostly by knowing they're there if/when I need them

They're like other tools to me (more so than folders).
For example, I don't use my 12" adjustable pliers, or large Vise-Grips etc., every day - but I'm sure glad I have them.
I'm just especially glad I have them when I pull them out for use.

I got the Izula, cause it was looking the way I wanted in a small fixed blade. Sort of bought it just for the looks of it. I mainly used folders, I edc'd folders and then my Izula arrived I tried to put that in a pocket, it worked, and I haven't gone back to folders since.

And I can tell you this knife can take some abuse. All of my folders would be broken by now, had I used them in a way I can safely use the Izula.
I even batonned through preassure treated hardwood, but I must say, you should not do that after making your edge more acute, I had the edge fold a little, but it was sharpened at 20 degrees at the time, which is great for slicing but not for batonning.
I simply re-sharpened and the little bugger is as good as new.

For EDC I'd use the Izula, or the Randall folder.

The RC3 is great for yardwork and stuff around the house. Different situations - different tools.

My EDC is a Victorinox Farmer, it does everything it is required to do for suburban survival.

However, If I walk outside into the woods or out on the water, i would not be caught with out a quality fixed blade knife.

My fixed blades get pressed into kitchen duty as well, just for fun.
