hello folks,

after some off time (exams) I decided to take a different approach to knifemaking. Detailled and work intensive. Trying to make a knife pretty :D you get the idea. I wanted to make a functional looker

So here it is :

pic1.jpg

Blade : Ladder damascus ( my first attempt  ), the thin lines are bandsaw, the wide lines are cable damascus. Little over 5 inch blade. Differential HT'ing ( that's the line on the blade). Basically my first test knife which worked out OK.

Handle : forged on Brass guard, kydex spacer ( red-black X 2 ) . Cocobolo handle, mosaic securing pin, superglue finish of 20 layers ( look at my fingers and you'll know how I do that  ).

Actually I'm pretty proud of this one, the lines IMHO is nice. but the scanner pic is a bit dark and not shining.. for thos of you who have seen superglue finishes, you know what it really looks like.

lemme know what you think of it .

greetz and take care folks,

Bart.

Nice damascus, Bart. Now you know that it's not THAT hard to make, just as i said before.

Great job Bart, I like the whole thing, the damascus, cocobolo and a nice finish up with the pin.

Very Nice

Ive never heard of superglue finish. I assume you buy it in bulk.
In Australia it comes in a small tube only a couple of grams at a time.

I like the ladder pattern.

Hello folks,

Thanks for all the nice comments. I really appreciate it.

About the questions .. The forged on guard .. Actually that was an experiment. About 1/25 th inch below the guard, there are two ridges which I never removed when I was filing the whole thing. When the I was almost done forging the blade, actually before HT, I made a guard with a matching hole to the ridges. I softly pounded it on, then softened it and again pounded it till there was no more seam at all. Then I finished both sides of the guard to flats. so basically the guard is fixed on to the tang without any glue or solder.

About the superglue, There is about 15 mg on , so three 5 mg superglue tubes.. isn't that bad now is it ?
The pic really makes the superglue finish suck... it's pretty & very shiny.

greetz and take care all.

Bart that's exceptionally clean work. I really like the details like spacers and mosaic pins. You did a great job on the damascus too. Keep sharing your work, great to watch!

very nice work, I like the damascus pattern and the hole knife has a clean flow to it. looks very comfortable to use too.

Nice Knife Bart. You need to sign a peice of art like that. I cant see your name anywhere. Interesting guard fastening idea. Ive done the superglue finish before, once never again. Takes forever!!
