I got to wondering how you displayed your knives? I keep mine in my home office and try to combine my hobbies in my offices. I find the knives are great conversation pieces and add to my decorum, if you will. Here are some of the knives I have and how their displayed. Didn't want to bore anyone so just took a couple of pics. Just purchased the stands I use to display the knives (matter of fact, just sent the wife out to get me another $100 worth of display stands as I really like them). Just wondering how everyone else displayed their knives to see if I could steal any ideas. Thanks!

G'Day Marc, They look fantastic mate, far too tidy and organised! You obviously dont have a cat mine would make quick work of them when he jumps up. Easy to see how we become Schrade possessive when we see such beautiful knives. If I displayed mine like that I would end up dying by death of a 1000 cuts I'm sure.
You certainly look proud Marc standing by your knives in that top photo....and I always thought you Yanks looked similar to us Aussies!!!...Hoo Roo from Downunder.
P.S.Hard to stop collecting when it gets in your blood I hardly need another but it doesnt stop me..I just bought the George Schrade Boy Scout Pouch and utensils cos they kinda appeal to me even though my wife and I have Case Hobos we take to Wok Box Chinese outdoor restaurants..beats the hell out of those tiny plastic knives and forks.

Thanks Larry. I have two cats but my labs live in my office so the cats never come in. I have another half of the office I didn't show in pics that are full of knives and hunting things.....I actually enjoy going to the office now

I don't have any of my knives displayed currently, but your office looks great.

I did have plans in my head for a display cabinet that would open to shelves and drawers, then close to lock. But now it seems I have neither the time nor the skill to complete such an object, and the size of my "Accumulation" is dictating another solution.

So I just need a little more work on the house and I'll have a small room dedicated for knife storeage - the steam trunk is bursting at the seams and ready to collapse from all the knives piled on top of it. So my idea is to take this small room and line two walls with shelves. The knives would still be kept in their boxes, but access and organization would be easier. And there'd still be space in the room for a small chair, table, and lamp. Best thing, the entire room is easily locked.

Good pictures! I would like to ask about optimum storage/display conditions? Obviously too much humidity must be bad but what about the opposite? My flat is very over heated as I live in the arctic, but can it be TOO dry? Could this affect bone or stag scales, the dryness? How about sunlight? Does this fade bone handles or? Thanks!

Direct sunlight wreaks havoc on pocket knives! It fades everything, and sometimes kicks off celluloid decay. And it dries and shrinks stag, bone and plastic. I've even seen it flake pearl!! An internal wall in my house that gets no sun is where I display mine, in cabinets like these;

These hang on the wall like a painting, have a (very basic) lock, and because the knives are mounted on magnets, they take seconds to remove and replace. Also, no dusting! I still have a dozen or two laying around on the desk, but I have the wall displays in four different rooms, so I can always look at knives, or show them off!

That's a stunning display

Magnets you say? Does each knife have a magnet or is the back of the case magnetized steel?

Could you tell us what the large (Barlow?)knife is on the bottom row extreme right please? That's a piece of excellence:D

P.S. The lower right-hand knife is a sawn bone English Jack. It came from the Wall at the Schrade factory.

Fabulous knife, that explains it:D

You must be a proud owner and connoisseur of taste:thumbup:

Well, I'm proud of the knife, and I drink dago red (being of that persuasion, I make my own). I don't know if that's connoisseurism of taste or not:D :D !
Seriously, I feel lucky to have it.

I don't have a lot of my knives on display. How do you display 500+ knives anyway?

I think the biggest thing that holds me back is that I am not comfortable with displaying them with the blades open. I think that has a tendency to weaken the back springs. I have heard pros & cons of the arguments, but I am not willing to risk weakening the springs, just to make a display.

Just my $.02,
Dale

I think full-open is fine, but I'd hesitate to display partially opened where the spring has the most tension on it. Even if it only ruined on knife out of 50, it's not worth the chance.

I'm also concerned about security. I wouldn't want most people to know that I had anything valuable in the house.

Is the spring under anymore tension when fully out and or locked open than if it is closed???

I love the magnet idea!!!

I was going to make a display cabinet with clear polycarbinate across front, it is bullet proof in thick peices but it can still be cut with a handsaw.

Since the spring lays flat against the back of the knife whether completely open or when closed, I'd say it's about the same. Depends on the knife of course. I have noticed on some knives, when completely open, the spring isn't totally flush. But it's probably not sprung enough to matter.

....Some of those gift sets I've got are 20 to 30 years old now and the folders have been partially open all that time.I can not detect any difference whatsoever in opening and closing those knives against the fully closed of the same models. They dont even get a drop of oil because I wouldn't want to mark the gift set liners. My opinion.
