I've never owned a tomahawk before, but I love throwing ninja stars at targets for fun and a tomahawk sounds like even more fun!

So how do yinz feel about the voodoo? I'll probably use it for light wood chopping too if I decide to pull the trigger.

Hows the weather in the 'Burgh? The voodoo hawk is a toy. It'll do for tossing into a stump and probably manage to chop wood if you really need it to.

Ninjas stars are stupid.

Take a look at the modding a cold steel trail hawk thread at the top, you can get one of these for between 20 and 30 bucks, they are tough and take a good edge, a good beginner hawk with a lot of choices. (trail hawk is a good choice, but I like them all)

A major retailer has the Fasthawk for $20, during the Holidays. It will throw just as well, you can get a couple of them for the same price as the Voodoo. Plus, it just looks like more marketing added to make more sales. I don't see any need for a metal butt plate. I've thrown my Fasthawk lots of times, the butt has no damage at all.
Save your money, it just looks like a movie prop. So, it's a larger head, and has a "sharpened" beard, but the spike still isn't sharp, why not?

Wow. Pretty lame statement, especially given that the OP specified that he threw them for fun.

OP, I agree with Foxx and Liam...never owned a Voodoo, but I have had other SOG hawks, to include the Fasthawk. They'll work, I guess...but for the money and for your purposes I'd get Cold Steel or two and have fun modding and trying different head shapes. If you can find the Fasthawk for $20 and IF you really like the style, it'd be worth the money. But get a Cold Steel to mod, as well. That's a lot of fun; and some of the head styles are pretty good little woods hatchets.

Haha the weather dahn' here in da 'Burgh' was surprisingly nice today! Wore a t-shirt and shorts to class. Anywho I'm glad I found this forum there's so much good info!

I'll look into that cold steel. Never thought of modding a knife or hawk, but after a week of being a member of this forum, I might just try it! Thanks for the replies!

And I guess you're right scouter seeing as how ninja stars don't have a brain and all...

:D I had some when I was younger as well. I recommend starting with the trail hawk. It's, IMO, the most useful overall design. From there you can establish what you like or dislike about it and get something else. It's a small investment to start out with, and you'll probably still like ot after moving on.

Throwing stars a fun as hell and if you don't think so you should get out more. Whats not to love, it's like throwing knives but you don't need much practice . If you throw them enough you can get quite good.
I would say get a cold steel first, then move on to the more tactical style hawks after you get a better idea of how they handle. For wood chopping and trail use the spike found on many hawks can be scary.

I feel like after the once over I really can't determine why it's called "Voodoo" and also it's more top heavy with the longer cutting edge and no whistler holes, yet does not have a lanyard hole for some reason. Like, it seems that SOG Tactical just plain decided they wanted to produce an impractical ceremonial swamp hatchet or something, that might explain the name "Voodoo" at least...

The Voodoo was designed as a tie in to the video game Medal of Honor. A character's call sign in the game is Voodoo, and he uses the Voodoo hawk in the game to kill terrorists.
